Slap up meal reward from Boss - where shall we go?

DH's boss has told him that he can take me out for a meal at his expense (providing it doesnt come to more than £300 for the pair of us).

Anyone got any suggestions. We're not used to having such a large budget (seems very extravagant) but anyone got any ideas?

Don't you have a restaurant that you've always wanted to try like Jamie Oliver's 15 or one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurant?

Good idea face. I guess we could go to somewhere `famous' on that sort of budget. Anyone frequent those sort of places and got ideas of how much it costs?

£300 for two would cover any top London restaurant.

However... if you wnat to make the money go further how about a little London secret???

If you go to this link you will find a tiny little hotel secret - click on west street hotel You could afford to eat at the restaurant beneath the hotel East@west . Location is fantastic and you would have a ball.

Sorry meant to say that on £300 you could stay teh night at the hotel and eat in the restaurant

Ah my specialist subject!

OK in London I would go for a hotel like Dukes in St James and dinner at Andrew Edmunds in Soho - small and romantic and great food. Or if pre Christmas what about ice skating at Somerset House and dinner at the restaurant there? easy walk back to Waterloo for a train ride home too.

Where else... Quaglinos is still pretty special but pre Christmas might be a bit much.

Try www.squaremeal.co.uk and have a fabulous time. I'm incredibly jealous!

oh and meant to say - don't waste it at 15, dreadful service and the food was awful. Could have been a bad night but...

Oh I know! Claridges! Gordon Ramsay food and such a lovely place! Think you would get a really memorable meal there. That said his Chelsea restaurant is amazing.

sigh. I miss my expense account!

Can heartily recommend Le Caprice in Piccadilly. probably about £150 a couple with wine. Really lovely restaurant and not at all pretentious. I hate waiters who talk to you like it is all a bit beneath them. They are bloody waiters for goodness sake ! The service at Le Caprice is excellent.

Definitely second Gordon Ramsay, Pied a Terre on Charlotte Street (maybe you could have a night in the Charlotte Street Hotel too!) or how about Mirabelle?

Carluccio's is nice but you could feed 10 people there for £300 - splash out a bit more!

I also like the Oxo tower for the food and the view, though some people hate the service I have always found it lovely.

The People's Palace, 3rd/4th floor at the Festival Hall is lovely, spectacular views in summer.Good for celeb spotting too ( esp MPs, Ken Livingstone etc)

My sister and I ended up going to Mirabelle earlier this year (see the thread I linked below), and I have to say we were a little disappointed.

The service was good but the food was nothing special. Actually the first courses were very good, but then the main courses didn't live up to them. There was nothing wrong with it, per se, but we were hoping it would be a really good meal (and I was willing to spend quite a lot to get that). So I wouldn't recommend Mirabelle for a really special meal.

I'll say again my recommendation for the River Cafe though - everything there was amazing.

Club Gascon in Smithfield is great. Really great food.

Second Gordon Ramsay on Hospital Rd, would have to go easy on the wine spending to keep within budget though heh heh!

Or the Waterside Inn in Bray is v nice too.

Putney Bridge is great if you like the formal vibe, ask for one of the big round tables overlooking the bridge though.
