When does your dh/dp get home from work?

On average I mean. My dh averages about 7.30 or 8.00, but on some days it is much later (Fridays are 10.00). This is not because he finishes work, but because he goes on to do something else after work, which is really important to him (don't want to go into details, but I don't dispute his need to do this). However, when I feel hard done by(!), he claims that this is early, and that I'm lucky he helps when he does get home. SO - survey!

Ummm... I'm not going to help here but 4.30pm latest... (he's a teacher).

zubb · 11/11/2004 20:01

5pm latest - another teacher.

Gobbledigook · 11/11/2004 20:02

If he's on time - 6.30. He then baths older ds's and does their milk, puts them to bed while I deal with ds3.

If he's late at all it's normally no later than 7.15. Still here to see the boys to bed.

Very, very rarely will he be later than that but he sometimes nips in for an hour or so at the weekend to catch up which I don't mind as I like to have him around in the evenings.

When he's late it's work. He goes out for a drink sometimes and obviously that's fine because I go on girls nights out too and he always makes sure he is in early enough for me to get ready and go.

He's a star.

hoxtonchick · 11/11/2004 20:02

normally around 6:30. sometimes he picks ds up from nursery at 5. so 7:30-8 let alone 10 sounds pretty late to me (ie after bedtime). i'd be steaming angry if i were you....

MunnzieB · 11/11/2004 20:03

well at teh mo it's around 5.45-6 leaves for work at 7.25 to start for 8, but has wed afternoons and all day friday off - is a soldier. (will change to 8.30-4.30 when reposted)

MunnzieB · 11/11/2004 20:03

the* even

kkgirl · 11/11/2004 20:03

Mine is normally home by 6-6.30, but he is studying for an exam tomorrow, so has been coming home after 8, finishes work but stays there to study.
Tonight he has told me it will be 9, but tomorrow night, it will all be over.

Gobbledigook · 11/11/2004 20:03

You lot are even more lucky if just to have help with tea time - it's the hardest part of the day and I find it really stressful but dh is never in for that.

gingernut · 11/11/2004 20:04

Usually between 7 and 8pm (he's not home yet tonight though!). But I'm lucky in that he leaves around 9am in the mornings to avoid the worst of the traffic (would be in easily by 9.30).

tabitha · 11/11/2004 20:05

About 5pm (traffic permitting). If I have the car I meet him at work at 4:30pm then we pick up dd (workplace nursery) and ds (childminder). If he has the car he comes home with them himself. Oh, and he's not a teacher

Gobbledigook · 11/11/2004 20:06

What are all these jobs where the blokes finish so early?

charliecat · 11/11/2004 20:06

6-8pm from 5 or 6 in the morning!

WigWamBam · 11/11/2004 20:07

Never earlier than 6pm, although if he's been on a site visit, it varies and can be as late as midnight - tonight he'll be back at about 10. He has to work away quite a bit, too. It's not every night though, as yours seems to be; if it was I would certainly feel hard done by - saying he helps when he gets home is all very well, but what's left to do at 10pm? Do you get any time away from the kids to do what's important to you - because if you don't then he is being very unfair.

MistressMary · 11/11/2004 20:10

This is a good one.
Off to work anywhere from 4 in the am til 12.30 at night. Site work. Today went off at 4.30 to go to London will be home around 9 tonight.
Weekends and all.
He is self employed. Shopfitters widow that's me.
I feed my baby, change, do the nappy, the works. Always have. Daddy makes it possible for Mummy to stay at home. Anyone fancy a swap!!

tex111 · 11/11/2004 20:24

Between 7 and 8, but he can make an effort and come home earlier if I need him to. He leaves the house around 6am and often stays up to work after I've gone to bed but his job has recently changed and he's doing some post-grad work so things are particularly crazy at the moment.

Goldfish · 11/11/2004 20:26

Mine works away for 2 weeks then is at home for 2. I can't imagine what it must be like to have someone come home every evening. He has done this for years.

Bozza · 11/11/2004 20:42

Mine is usually about 6ish but today he was home early because he's been away last night and finished what he was doing early. BUT I was at work until 5 and then had to do the nursery run (own fault because I'd left DD's car seat - she's still in the baby carrier - in my car this morning) so we didn't get home until 6. So this week its been something like 6.15, 6, not at all, 4.30 and who knows tomorrow. He normally goes out at 8 when I'm working (often earlier or later Monday and Friday) because he does the morning nursery run and I leave at 7.40.

CountessDracula · 11/11/2004 20:44

7.30 if he is coming straight home. Has work things 2 nights a week on avg, then home any time from 8.30 to midnihgt

popsycal · 11/11/2004 20:46

he works 7:45am til 3:45pm at the moment and works a 15 minute drive away...so between 4pm and about 4:20

PicadillyCircus · 11/11/2004 20:49

Depends - generally by 7pm, but more usually by 6:30pm although this week eariler as he's been picking DS up from nursery as I've been working in London and it's been me getting back later.

This week I've been leaving before DH, he's taken DS to nursery and picked him up and sometimes put him to bed

tabitha · 11/11/2004 20:50

He's a research technician. To be honest I think I deserve to have him home this early as up until 4 years ago (the first 15 years of our marriage) either or both of us worked away from home / weekends /shifts and we barely saw each other.

luckymum · 11/11/2004 20:50

When he's on days he gets home around 7pm. Nights he goes out at 5pm gets back around 9.30am. I get the bed to myself - it's great and the reason we're still together after almost 20 years

colinsmommy · 11/11/2004 20:57

Between 4:30 and 5, which is wonderful, because before we moved he had an hour and a half drive in a single direction. And before he got promoted, he had to work swing shift 2 weeks in a row, then graveyard 1 week, then a "normal" shift one week and start the pattern over. He almost always comes right home, and helps take care of the baby or make dinner. And never tells me I'm lucky for him helping.

vict17 · 11/11/2004 20:59

usually 6.30pm thank goodness as when he's late I really miss his help at bedtime and that's just with one baby (I know, I'm a wimp!)
