Hi there,

Just wondered if there were any other mumsnetters in the Reading area ?

Anyone fancy meeting up - either with kids or for an evening out sometime this month ?

I'd be up for it, I'm not in the city but not far away.

jessi · 05/10/2002 16:02

Yes please! I'd love to!

Scatterbrain · 07/10/2002 12:18

Marvellous - so what's it to be ? Evening or daytime ? and - anyone got any ideas what to do ?

I was wondering about soft play place if with kids - there's one at Whitley (South Reading - near Shinfield) and must be others.

I'm South of Reading myself - about 8 miles out, but don't mind meeting centrally or out a bit.

Let me know what you think !

I'd rather do evening,'cos its so hard to have a conversation with ds (almost 3) around! Also I don't go out nearly enough!! What do you reckon? If you'd both rather do daytime then thats fine too.

Scatterbrain · 09/10/2002 14:14

Jessi, Twink,

What shall we do then and when shall we do it ?

Evenings are fine with me so long as dh is home to babysit - can be arranged so long as I give him a bit of notice.

Post soon please !

An evening out would be fab!! Are you near to Reading town centre or do you know anywhere you would like to go? I don't get out much in the evenings but there are lots of places in town, Pizza Express etc we could go to.
What about one evening next week?

Scatterbrain · 09/10/2002 19:21

Hi Jessi,

I'm out a bit - near Wokingham, but quite happy to drive into town. I don't know Reading very well, and I too don't get out much !!

What's around The Oracle ? There are a few restaurants that look quite nice, but I've never tried them. We could meet by the bridge and decide then.

I think I'm OK for pretty much any evening next week - probably best avoid Friday though as it will be horribly busy out.

What do you think - and is there anyone else out there interested in coming, Bobbins ? Twink ?

Hi Scatterbrain, that sounds great but what about having a glass of vino (or several) if you've got to drive home afterwards? It would be easy for me to get a cab home from there, but it dosen't feel fair on you! I've realised the only free night I have next week is Monday (forgot I've got relatives to stay, sorry) Otherwise the following week I am totally around and could do any night with abit of notice!
Would love it if twink or bobbins were around too..come on girls, reading rocks!!

Sorry, computer being abit duplicitous this evening!

Scatterbrain · 11/10/2002 12:52

Hi Jessi,

The week after next it is then ! Wednesday good for you ?

I don't mind driving - I'm used to it and I get plenty of G&T at home, so it'll do me good !

Where are Twink and Bobbins - we want you to come out with us !!!

OP posts:
Twink · 11/10/2002 12:58

I'm here ! but I'm stuck that week so go out without me and maybe we could do something in November.

jessi · 11/10/2002 14:41

Hi Scatterbrain, maybe we should meet up when the others can come too? I would love to meet Bobbins and Twink (as well as you!) as we're all local. How about a little christmas meet up that we can plan in advance so we can all go? Just a suggestion, I'm worried in case your feeling obliged to just meet me and it would probably be more fun if there were more of us. Sorry this probably isn't sounding right!? What do you think?

Scatterbrain · 11/10/2002 15:03

Good idea - although quite happy to meet just you if you fancy it ?

Bobbins · 11/10/2002 18:42

OOOH ooh OO where we going, if its Pizza Express, make mine a fiorentina. There is loads of choice though. Tell me when and where and I'll be there. I live very near the train station so nowhere in town is a problem for me. I booked my works Chrimble do today, we are going to Loch Fyne, that looks nice, perhaps a bit pricey, only opened in the summer. The only thing is, I wish we were doing a weekend. I'm crap at going out on a school night

I'm sure I'll cope tho

Bobbins · 11/10/2002 19:00

My mouth has been watering all day, looking at all these Reading restaurants' Christmas menus. It was a nightmare getting everyone to agree on a place....finally we settled on this not much good if you don't like fishy stuff , but the Chrimble dinner has lots of alternatives.

Anyway, where were you thinking of going?

jessi · 12/10/2002 11:30

Hooray Bobbins! Glad you want to come too! Weds 23rd October is the date we've pencilled, are you free? Scatterbrain, even if Bobbins can't make it, lets still go! I was worried in case you were feeling lumbered with just me! Pizza Express is always good for moi, love it.

Scatterbrain · 13/10/2002 18:58

Faberoonie girls - Pizza Express sounds good - bit poor at the mo so cheap and cheerful for me !

So - Wednesday 23rd - where shall we meet, how shall we recognise each other ? and at what time ?

Twink - are you coming too ? Would be great if you could !

OP posts:
jessi · 14/10/2002 16:52

How about 8pm at Pizza Express? They have sofas there so we could meet on the sofas rather than at a table? That way if its raining or cold, we're not hanging around outside? Not sure how we'll recognise each other, but I guess nervous-looking women in the sofa area will probably sort that out!!! What do you think?
Can't wait!

Twink · 14/10/2002 18:20

I wish I could make it, I'll certainly try to make the next (you see, Mumsnetters hit it off so well I know there will be a next !)

Have a good night, and let us know how it goes.

Scatterbrain · 14/10/2002 19:55

Marvellous plan - Will see you there !

Will also try to think of something identifiable to wear or carry to avoid embarassing moments !!

Hooray - can't wait !!!

OP posts:
Bobbins · 16/10/2002 18:47

I'll be there...can't plan wardrobe in advance tho I'm afraid

jessi · 16/10/2002 21:56

Hi Bobbins, glad your still coming! I can't plan my wardrobe in advance either, but what about a scarf theme? Can't be many people in pizza express wearing scarfs can there? Or maybe all carrying a copy of the midweek paper you get free through the door on a wednesday.. bit heavy though? Or hats? Or menu's?????

Scatterbrain · 17/10/2002 12:40

Scarf is good - I can do scarf !

I WILL do scarf - anyway it's blooming freezing now so will need scarf !

See you next week - Ohhhh - Derrrrr - where is Pizza Express BTW ? Sorry - don't know Reading very well - know the main shopping street and Oracle - is it near there ?

OP posts:
jessi · 17/10/2002 18:08

Hi Scatterbrain, ummm, not very good on directions either as we always drive there. But you know where the main shopping street is, its off that! On the corner of the Pizza street is Virgin I think, and its a one way street. God thats no help at all is it! Hopefully Bobbins can be abit more helpfull! Other wise I'll look it up on the map!
Looking forward to meeting you,
Jessi
