B*stard Fox has eaten all my chickens!

I am very upset. Feathers everywhere. He actually scrabbled at the hen house until he undid the catch and it opened. All dead.

And they were laying so brilliantly as well. Tilly, Polly, Norma and Irma, RIP .

no, sue and ellen are the rabbits (well they were, we changed their names when we got them) - they are in a hutch in a wired enclosure so he didn't get to them.

really very cross and sad

4 year old knows and thinks it is quite interesting (! boys) but 6yr old is on a sleepover so doesn't know yet. she will be upset.

I am sorry - how horrid. I thought all the foxes were in towns now. One got my neighbour's rabbit the other night. They'v got very cocky since they heard about the hunting ban.

Oh, sorry PPH, that's horrible. All those children's stories where the chickens/ducks/geese get away from the nasty fox aren't very helpful here, are they? A hug to your dd when she finds out.

Oh pph this happened to me when I was pregnant with daughter (15 yrs ago). Your post brought it back to me. It was such a mess and so bloody horrid. Partner at the time had to deal with it as I could not bare it.

Interestingly the most upset is my dh! He is taking it very personally. If I was a fox I'd stay away for a few days...
Ah well, now I know what to do to entertain the children on Thursday - trip to the local chicken breeder methinks... can't bear the thought of having to buy eggs in the supermarket.

winnie - we haven't had any mess as such - they took them all away (must have been more than one). just piles of feathers at the location of each kill. one of them put up a very good fight and managed to run right into the middle of the next door field before being caught.

they also killed three woodpigeons at the same time - was a real fox feast

How awful PPH!!
Foxes are a menace around here too (they managed to get into neighbour's barn and cause havoc with her chickens. Only one lonely bantam left.

She now has two locks on the hen house and bolts the barn door at night.

bloody hell, just found a dead rabbit by the drive (wild one, not one of our pets thank GOD). wasn't there an hour ago. weasel I think, it clearly is going to be one of those days...

will this killing never stop?!!!!!

To add more fuel to the fire! I will be out 'pre season hunting' tommorow and the opening meet on saturday with DD for her first meet (aged 2).... Will think of you if we get any joy!!!! an eye for an eye.....

I just said OH NO really loudly and dd ran in and said what's the matter. When I told her she put on her most sincere face and said "Don't worry, it'll be alright, if you're happy and you know it clap your hands"

RIP those poor chooks. Hope your dh gets his vengeful hands on that fox.

whimsy, it would have been MUCH worse if he had got our rabbits! your poor daughter.

anyway we went chicken shopping this morning, dd and I, and are now the proud owners of 1 speckledy Maran hen, 2 very haughty Partridge Cochin hens, and a very flouncy looking not-sure-what-but-quite-Leghorny bantam cockerel to keep them all together. They rejoice in the names of Hannah, Josie Jump, Miss Hoolie and Bouncy. Bizarre, but that is what the children came up with!!!

Here's to a long and happy life. One has already laid an egg

Just a word of warning PPH, my friend's rabbit was 'murdered' by a fox(beheaded infact) and now weeks later the fox still keeps returning and trashing the part of the garden the rabbit was hidding in.

Beware incase he returns for seconds.

That's sad pph I'm glad you have your new chickens now - I hope you set them up in a Colditz type enclosure like in Chicken Run.

Why Hannah and Bouncy? Why not Suzy Sweet and Polly Pocket?
