Sewing Gloves onto Elastic, naff idea or not?

It's getting to that time of the year and DS (4.5) has no decent pockets in his school coat in which to stuff his gloves - would he be laughed out of the playground if he was running around with gloves dangling from elastic or do people still do this?!!

I don't know if I dare ask why, Hula

Oooh what a lovely load of replies about elastic, Robbie and if men had to give birth!

Sounds a bit "uncool" then, and as I'm rubbish with sewing anyway, I'll check out Gap tomorrow for those clip thingies.

My new teaching job, that's all I teach in a HMP one day a week. Thinking about wearing it at school as well some days though!

lou33 · 18/10/2004 14:49

OOh any chance of getting me one?!

Easy · 18/10/2004 14:51

I did them for ds last year at nursery.

Trouble was I made the elastic too long. His mittens were always caught in the door, tangled round the chair leg, that sort of thing.

Oh I'm a crap mother. Gap clips for us this year then.

Hulababy · 18/10/2004 14:54

Ha ha Lou - they are like gold dust in there at the moment! Especially the whistles. I fell lucky as I had mu induction on the door the order came through the door. I have to still pick up my panic alarm. Makes me look very important though, although the keys must be the largest keys I have ever seen.

Easy · 18/10/2004 14:54

Lou, I know this is inappropriate, but....

When dh was surfing the cable channels before bed the other night, he found one channel where a guy was wearing a chain clip round this waist. Cluipped on it was his willie ...... it had so many piercings and metal stuff in it he had to support it !!!

Sorry lowered the tone now.

Easy · 18/10/2004 14:55

HIS Waist

wobblyknicks · 18/10/2004 14:56

Oh please please PLEASE do NOT attach your kids gloves with elastic. It is naff and they WILL get teased. My mum used to do it to me and OMG!!! However short you make the elastic and however hard you try and hide it one of the kids will find out in about 20 mins flat!!! NO NO NO!!! Much better to let them lose the gloves and buy new ones out of their pocket money - trust me, its less cruel!!!

Hulababy · 18/10/2004 14:56

[shock} OMG Easy!!!

WEll, mine isn't used for anything vaguely similar, honest!

hana · 18/10/2004 14:59

We always called these 'idiot strings' growing up. DD had them for the last two years but after reading this (she's 3) I'm thinking that maybe she has to loose them very soon......

lou33 · 18/10/2004 15:24

Blench @ Easy

lou33 · 18/10/2004 15:24

Can I have one without the whistle then please?

Easy · 18/10/2004 15:26

oh, have I really shocked you all?

lou33 · 18/10/2004 15:28

I am unshockable

pixiefish · 18/10/2004 20:40

Hula- have been wondering all day about your comment regarding the pouch. Is it true that some prisoners have photographic memories with keys? that's absolutely amazing...

nutcracker · 18/10/2004 21:02

Mine have been threatened with the elastic this year as we lost so many last year. I resorted to just buying the cheapy stretchy gloves in the end, but would like them to have a nice pair this year.

Hulababy · 19/10/2004 17:03

Pixiefish - so \I am told, and reminded each time I collect my keys on entering the prison. Apparantly they memorise its shape in seconds, and can then make replicas. We are shown to hold our hands over the key at all times, and to keep it inside our belt puch when not opening a door.

Hulababy · 19/10/2004 17:04

A lot of prisoners can be very clever in what they can do!

Lonelymum · 19/10/2004 17:07

I have been known to sew elastic on to my kids gloves - it is better than them losing them - ds2 lost one and a half pairs last winter although we did eventually find them again. He was 6 then. I don't think a 4.5 yo would be laughed at for having their gloves sewn onto elastic.

pixiefish · 19/10/2004 17:12

scary hula... I can't even remember what i did this morning
