Crinolines appeared in the 1860s but they didn't last very long.

By the mid-to-end of the Victorian era, women were wearing bustles. Most Edwardian women didn't wear bustles. This coincided with an era where skirts got progressively shorter.

Dear Mrs ahundredtimes

I would advise that your Governess bring the children down. washed and scrubbed., after nursery tea on a Sunday to be presented to their parents in the drawing room. After a kind word or scolding. as necessary. the Governess will take them upstairs to their nursery bedchamber. This will save your posture and neither will it inconvenience Mr ahundredtimes.

Yours etc. etc.,

... and in answer to how your dh will vote in a general election, 'tis widely known in society circles that he will vote how he is told to vote by his dear lady wife.

Women hardly need the vote when men are so jolly malleable on the matter ...

Dear Miss Desiderata

I beg you to try this wonderful rescue from Dr Brown. It has cured my 17yo daughter Ellen, of all fancies.

Is one being unreasonable :

If ones firstborn daughter is named Esme Victoria, ought not ones SIL lay off the Esme and stick to Gwendolyn like what she said she would?

Are we suffering a surfeit of Esmes?
