ever had them waxed?

Would you recommend it?

I thought about just that the other day madame. I want to know as well.

motherinferior · 11/10/2004 14:56

Actually, although my first response to this was NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I've realised that yes, I have.

Personally I would make with the razor. I find waxing grows back far earlier than it should. But perhaps that's just me (mother of two children who have been lycanthropically hirsute since birth...)

suzywong · 11/10/2004 14:58

I knew this would draw MI out of the woodwork

it does seem like a good idea doesn't it madame(s)

why are we hairy under our armpits and down there????I know I will get this question soon from dd and I'm not sure why!

KateandtheGirls · 11/10/2004 15:01

I don't find armpits to be that big a hassle. It's shaving my legs at least every other day that's such a pain in the neck. So I think I would consider getting my legs waxed before my armpits. I guess to get that done, though, you have to let the hair grow somewhat first.

prettycandles · 11/10/2004 15:02

Nooooooo! Noooooo! Nooooooo!

I've had it done, twice - because the first time was so awful that I was persuaded it had been done wrong. Each time it made my pits bleed and they swole up so much that I walked around like a bodybuilder for several days afterwards.

NEVER again, I swear!

lou33 · 11/10/2004 15:03

thing is i don't want to wait until it is long enough to wax again, and get irresistible urge to shave.

motherinferior · 11/10/2004 15:03

I'd still shave. Personally. But then I have that sort of revolting pale armpit hair that just looks scraggy, rather than Proud and Exotic in really quite sexy way.

Must return to writing article not about armpits...

lou33 · 11/10/2004 15:04

That's not a nice vision PC......poor you.

prettycandles · 11/10/2004 15:04

The reason we are hairy there and 'downstairs' is to make us smellier! No, really, that's why mature humans always have hair there. It's just our society that doesn't generally like 'natural' odours.

motherinferior · 11/10/2004 15:05

Compelled to return to this thread and say I never knew that, which is a clear demonstration of the Wonder of Mumsnet.

suzywong · 11/10/2004 15:07

PC is absolutely spot on
see here

so I take it that's a resounding no vote to waxing then?

I had mine done a few years ago, before a holiday, but they stayed bright red for about a week, so they looked like I had sun-burn! Haven't bothered again - also v. painful.

welshmum · 11/10/2004 15:55

I don't know whether this is the right place for this anecdote (there isn't one I suspect)but....whilst having a bath recently my dd picked up a long hair - one that had previously been part of my 'way past the shoulders' locks and said 'Come here mummy, I need to put this back on your fanny'....:0

suzywong · 11/10/2004 15:56

one of the most painful experiences of my life, never to be repeated...seriously, makes bikini line/leg wax feel like having an aromatherapy massage...just shave! it's not worth it (and they bleed!) it is sheer agony...

sorry if i've put you off

Chuffed · 11/10/2004 16:04

can I dare to be different and say I found my armpits less painful than bikini.
have been having laser treatment and that is way more painful than a wax but at least I can say that each time less grows through.
Agree with the regrowth though MI, I'm lucky to get 4wks.

noddy5 · 11/10/2004 16:05

When I was 19 I went travelling in Greece for 6 weeks. My friend decided we should get everything waxed si trying to be v sophisticated I agreed. Had legs and bikini kine done which hurt but bearable when it came to armpits I had to stop her after one and spent the holiday shaving 1 armpit!!It was so painful not recomended

Heathcliffscathy · 11/10/2004 16:07

does anyone remember the joy of sex bearded man tickling the woman's armpit hair? apparently an erogenous zone...

Heathcliffscathy · 11/10/2004 16:12

that'll be a no then i'll get me coat

spacemonkey · 11/10/2004 16:13
