I give up, it's just never going to get done :(

The decorating that is.

We have been here over 3 mths now and dp has done one room and even that isn't completely finnished.

He is supposed to be doing ds's room and so far it has taken him 3 mths to strip it and paint the wood work and it's a bloody box room.

Today he was supposed to start putting up the paper but no he has sat here all afternoon and done sod all. Oh no sorry correction, he has swept the living room floor.

We still have 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and hall stairs and landing to do yet and he just isn't interested.
He can't make the excuse that we don't have the stuff cos it's all sitting under the stairs waiting for him.

I really wanted the kids rooms done for xmas so that they could have room for their new toys

I can never be arsed to wait for DH to do all ours so I do it myself - that way you get to choose all the schemes with no argument! Mind you that's probably why today I feel 'reallycheesedoff'!!

I have offered YK but he just says no i'll do it and then sits there.

I stripped most of the room in the first place, stopping and starting to see to ds.
I offered to paint the wood work too but he did it eventually.
He could have got the papering done today and then i could have started the painting in the week and it would have been finnished for next weekend.

How hard is it to wallpaper ??? It is only linning paper, but i've never done it before.

Vertically as i'm painting over the top of it.

I'll have to try and have a go this week sometime, as i really want to start on Dd2's room.

If I waited for dh to finish all the tiling, painting papering etc that he starts I'll be waiting for the moon to turn into blue cheese .

Yeah unfortunalty the walls are crap, they shoulkdn't be as the house isn't that old, but the people here before us knocked lots of holes in them

Soupy - even if you've never done it before ???

Honestly i wouldn't have a clue where to start.

I would like to be able to do it though as then i could decorate what i wanted when i wanted to.

ok nutty. step by step wall papering instructions by misdee.

mix up paste according to packet.
cut paper roughly to sieze, slap on paste, hang on wall.
use big dry brush to make sure no bubbles, trim edges.
for the next step follow the same steps but line up to the paper. make sure no gaps or overlap on the paper.

Yeah but you no what will happen then don't you, he'll come up and start saying that i'm doing it wrong.

I'd rather do it when he's not here.

Nutty, I wallpapered a wall in my first flat having once watched my dad do it a few years before!

Mix up paste according to the packet instructions.

You'll need a long piece of string with something heavyish tied to the bottom. You hold the end of the sstring up to the ceiling and let it hang down. Then you can draw a pencil line on that's perfectly straight - don't rely on anything else in the room to be straight.

Hmmm that string thing sounds awkward to do.

Right i can't do it now as ds is now awake and not happy, plus i have to start tea soon.

I will try to do it this week sometime even if i only do a couple of strips.

God why couldn't i have got it together with a painter and decorator

Mind you still might

you can do it! If it is any consolation my DP is just the same - in my last week of being pregnant I mowed the lawn, kept the house clean and tidy, finished decorating the nursery, built all the nursery furniture, accepted delivery of washing machine, did the shopping online and did the tea each evening. Then I got told off for not resting . . . then he got told off for just breathing

Now I just dump DS on him and get on with it all - occasionally popping in for a feed and quick look at Mumsnet . The jobs get done, and properly.

In fairness he does do stuff when I get that shrill tone to my voice . . .
