here
Tell Tesco how disgusted you are.

Ah, this link is better.

This sounds awful but let's not suggest that all animals that are reared and slaughtered in the UK live and die in humane conditions.

cornsilk · 26/08/2007 11:58

Have just read the first link. It is truly horrific.

hercules1 · 26/08/2007 11:59

Agree with beansprout.

TooTicky · 26/08/2007 12:01

No, the UK is in no way perfect. That's one reason I'm vegan

OP posts:
FlameBatfink · 26/08/2007 12:08

I thought I was being heartless by thinking that

startouchedtrinity · 26/08/2007 12:24

I have to say I think Tesco do far worse things. Like using slave labour and forcing British farmers into poverty...

TooTicky · 26/08/2007 12:25

So because animals suffer in this country, it is okay for them to suffer elsewhere too?

OP posts:
beansprout · 26/08/2007 12:26

No, not at all TT. I'm no defender of Tesco!

TooTicky · 26/08/2007 12:28

Yes startouchedtrinity, that is awful too.
And so many people shop there without wanting to know what is going on.

OP posts:
StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/08/2007 19:28

Ah but is this a Chinese cultural thing or a specific Tesco thing. I'm very wary about judging other cultures. Chopping a turtle's head off to be honest sounds quite a humane way of killing it. I'd be happy to kill one of my chickens by decapitating it.

littlerach · 26/08/2007 19:31

Doesn't sound too humane formt he link though.

I boycott Tesco anyway, for reasons mantioned already.

EscapeFrom · 26/08/2007 19:32

I don't see many people protesting the regular boiling alive of innocent crustaceans. I am not keen on the idea of turtles living after the head has been removed either, but while I eat mussels and prawns I would feel hypocritical to protest at the treatment of turtles.

Tinker · 26/08/2007 19:36

I've not been into a Tesco for months anyway [smug high-horse emoticon]

Cappuccino · 26/08/2007 19:38

I do not shop at Tesco in China

totaleclipse · 26/08/2007 19:39

Thats disgusting.

TooTicky · 26/08/2007 19:42

Still the same company.

I'm objecting to the inhumane treatment of the turtles, not picking on another culture. I hold Tesco responsible.

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 26/08/2007 19:46

there are various despicably inhumane ways of killing animals

halal meat is sold in Britain for example

we can't blame multi-national companies for this kind of practice

ladymuck · 26/08/2007 19:46

But boycotting is pointless unless you want Tesco to change some aspect of its behaviour. What is considered to be a "humane" way of killing turtles?

TooTicky · 26/08/2007 19:51

Yes, the whole halal thing is shameful.

But Tesco shouldn't allow their staff to treat animals this way.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 26/08/2007 19:53

You boycott and tell them why. They don't want to lose sales. They only care about money.

OP posts:
EscapeFrom · 26/08/2007 19:57

Nobody care about the poor lobsters?

Ugly animals never get the sympathy vote though

ladymuck · 26/08/2007 20:01

TooTicky - you're just saying that you are disgusted. Given that Tesco is presumably meeting local demand for turtle, then how should they be killed?

I care about the lobsters!

Tesco should get proper information about "humane" killing. And use it.
