It is disgusting but so is the way battery chickens are kept. The turtles suffer for a couple of minutes ( I have no idea how they are looked after before that) and many animals reared for meat suffer for thier whole lives. The only way to prevent suffering is for us all to become vegetarians, I am not preaching as I eat meat!

I don't know how halal animals are treated when alive but I don't think people who let animals bleed slowly to death can be terribly kind.

No, the head of the turtle continues to live for up to an hour. And what about the turtles who have their shells ripped off and internal organs cut when they are still alive?

The article seems to say that there isn't a humane way to kill turtles. I assume tesco are selling turtles due to local market forces, the same way that they sell cheap clothes here and force people in bangladesh to work for less than a living wage. IMO you are unlikely to convince paople in China that eating turtles is cruel before basic human rights issues are addressed. They don't even have to comply to basic health and safety in coal mines ffs.
