Inspiration for DH's 40th Birthday (gulp)

stickynote · 28/09/2004 16:05

DH turns 40 next month and I really should have done something about it by now, but haven't and am now panicking.

Does anyone have any fantastic ideas for a present for him from the children?

Also any ideas where I could send him for a "get away from it all" type weekend (I'd love to go too but no childcare alas). He could do with a decent break, possibly trying something sporty?

I really am stuck, so any suggestions gratefully received!

What about those red latter day things - driving or golf or something - you can get them in Boots or on the net.

lilibet · 28/09/2004 16:11

I ws going to suggest that too, twinkie.

Aren't you nice, or are you just hoping or a reciprocal gesture in a few years??

Where are you? Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall runs lots of foodie/fishing type weekends down here in Dorset if thats his bag? Eg going out in a boat and sea fishing then all back to River Cottage and cooking the blighters. But if he's not at all foodie and you don't live anywhere near he may not be up for it. Hugh's website is here

Drive a steam train?
Drive a rally car?
Trip in a hot air balloon?
Weekend at a golf resort?
A flying lesson?

littlemissbossy · 28/09/2004 18:14

codswallop · 28/09/2004 18:59

is he into cars?

acnebride · 28/09/2004 19:03

kids could bake/decorate the cake?

or could each pick a photo of dh and write a poem about him - frame all together with nice photo of them?

stickynote · 28/09/2004 19:05

He likes cars, yes. Thanks for ideas so far. Like your ideas of poems acnebride but we'll have to do it for 50th (they're 5, 3 and 1!)

It's only a small thing, but could you buy a white t-shirt for dh and get the kids to draw/paint on it with special pens/paints? Would he wear/appreciate that sort of thing?

Ds got dh a kite for one of his birthdays

Thomcat · 28/09/2004 21:23

A night out to theatre, or something, with a meal before / after

I can think of a few hotels but would be good to know where you live

Quad-biking

A dat at the races, hire a driver for the day to take you there

From the kids - how old are they? Are they boys or girls?

Thomcat · 28/09/2004 21:25

Esbee - that's SO funny, I was going to suggest that but thought I wouldn't be so cruel!!!!

Orient Express?

Tickets to Paris?

stickynote · 28/09/2004 21:27

Kids are 5, 3 and 1 so possibly a little bit little to anything majorly creative (I can appreciate scribble but not necessarily sure I'd like to wear it IYSWIM).

He's scared of heights otherwise skydive would be perfect. We're in S Bucks but there isn't anyone who can have the kids for a weekend, so I was thinking of sending him off to do something, rather than us (sadly).
