Inspiration for DH's 40th Birthday (gulp)

DH turns 40 next month and I really should have done something about it by now, but haven't and am now panicking.

Does anyone have any fantastic ideas for a present for him from the children?

Also any ideas where I could send him for a "get away from it all" type weekend (I'd love to go too but no childcare alas). He could do with a decent break, possibly trying something sporty?

I really am stuck, so any suggestions gratefully received!

These are all really good ideas, thank you. I am stumped on the present from the kids though. John Lewis have footprints in clay which are painted and glazed but they're a FORTUNE. Mind you, I think a present like that would be more for my benefit

is he a gooner too SN? If so how about a stadium tour or even a trip to a European away match? (I could sort you out for the latter ticket wise as we have season tix)

Those moulds are 45quid at Mothercare Have a feeling Ikea do thme too if there's one near you.

stickynote · 28/09/2004 21:35

Blimey CD, he's a serious Gooner. We're on the waiting list for season tickets - didn't take up the North Bank bonds and have regretted it ever since. Now that would be a seriously good present. Can you get tickets for other people then?

How about they each paint and glaze a plate, a bowl and a mug each?

A t-shirt with 'Who's the Daddy' or take a pic of the 3 of them and have it printed on a t-shirt or a mug or something?

They could all bake a cake.

CD...just wanted to say hello cos I am a Gooner too....Upper West Stand.

Stickynote...how about the matchday hospitality packages that they do.
Red Letter days used to do a training day with an ex-player with lunch etc. I think they still do it.

I sent my dh for a day at a spa. Treatments aimed at men, and he loved it.

Thomcat · 28/09/2004 21:46

That sounds really nice actually Lou

Has he got a sense of humour? I gave my dh a really nice fossil from the kids for his 40th - it's an ammonite and all polished up. It looks lovely and the kids are fascinated by it - but no good if he is feeling sensitive about being 40!

I got him a selection of 40 things (books, music all sorts of things) but it took a lot of thinking coming up with the ideas - you could get him 40 thorntons chocs from the kids if desperate!

Thomcat · 28/09/2004 21:59

Great ideas Elderberry, what a lucky man he is.

Elderberry · 28/09/2004 22:05

Yeah! altho have to confess the 40 things idea was not my own - friend of a friend had done a similar thing and I was in the oh no 40th birthday dilemma when friend suggested it!

Thomcat · 28/09/2004 22:13

Yeah but you still bought him 40 things and put all the thought and effort into that. Will you adopt me?!

miggy · 28/09/2004 22:20

if you have a pottery cafe near you, they can help you to get the kids to do handprints on a plate or jug. If you just stick to a few colours, they look really nice when glazed.

stickynote · 28/09/2004 22:51

CD, if you look back on this thread, I'd be v interested in taking you up on your offer if it still stands.

Thanks again everybody .

The kids could 'help' you make a collage of cut out photos of your husband in his first 40 years. I did one for my dh's 40th and got it framed - he was well impressed. (Also did a surprise party at home - but got caterers in so he wouldn't work it out - and he didn't.)
He gave me a sunsail holiday - think I got the better deal.
You could try Auchrannie (sp?) House Hotel on Arran for a weekend?

CountessDracula · 28/09/2004 23:10

stickynote, CAT me and we will try and organise a ticket. Your dh will have to promise to behave though or we could lose season ticket!!

We have been on season ticket waiting list for about 12 years and are now apparantly 2000 from the top, last year we caved in and got bonds for bloody £5k (but only one between dh and I, 4 in total between various mates so we often go together and still have TRS membership so get tickets through that)

HI lolski, we are NBL thanks to bond!

Does he use a computer? How about a piccy of your kids on a mousemat? Or one of those electronic alarm clocks where your kids can record a message for his alarm (wake up daddy etc). I think you can get both from Bloomingmarvellous

Spogbox.co.uk have a nice hamper especially for fathers (got it for my dp and he loved it)

HTH,

Jules x
