aunty have you been to Tools/internet Options and put google in as your home page - it is likely that this co. has just changed your home page I think. V odd that it can't be deleted from history though

TraceyP · 06/09/2004 10:58

This is what I found on a computer problems site in answer to someone else who had the same problem:-

Sounds like you have some spyware installed. Check out Spybot S&D to get rid of it:

www.safer-networking.org/

Many times, spyware will "hijack" your browser and redirect startup and search pages. If you install the above program, update the definitions and run a full system scan. It will help you determine what is installed and what you can get rid of.

There is also a handy "Immunize" feature that can keep pesky spyware from returning.

Don't know if that's any help to you.

auntyquated · 06/09/2004 11:01

yes, countess i do internet/options numerous times a day to change it back again. yes, very strange about the history, it goes if i delete all the hostory but not if i try to do it individually

You might have a huge big list so be warned, but now youve installed spybot the list should never get so big again!

Try rebooting into safe mode now, if you can, and see how it goes.

OP posts:
TraceyP · 06/09/2004 11:45

Restart it, yes. On some computers you can chose to restart in safe mode.

This will do the trick - just type this into your Google search (I don't know how to do the link) and download it when you find the site - its quite safe and it WORKS!

PepiMK's CoolWWWSearch.SmartKiller

willow2 · 07/09/2004 22:45

This is an absolute bitch of a virus/spyware to get rid of. Do not be surprised if you spend the best part of two weeks trying to eradicate it with various programmes. You may get a day or so and then it will return. It drove me up the wall a month or so ago. Ended up disc-ing all documents and reformatting the computer. It was the only thing that worked.

JoolsToo · 08/09/2004 20:15

willow2 - hear what you say - but I also had the same problem and Smartkiller did the trick! she can but try!

charliecat · 08/09/2004 20:25

If you go to systamtec...spelling wrong can someone correct me and search for the spyware/virus youve got it give you exact instructions for removal if all else fails.
The thing is these things lock themself in your start up menu etc....so when u log on they load up again
Specifically just to waste your time it seems..

auntyquated · 08/09/2004 20:27

tried smartkiller but it says you have to pay $30 ... is that right?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 08/09/2004 20:42

Have you tried getting rid of it having turned off system restore, rebooting in safe mode and then editing the registry to search out all occurrances of findthewebsiteyouneed, changing them to google as you go?

you need to back up the registry before doing it just in case it goes horribly wrong.

auntyquated · 08/09/2004 20:45

it is irritating that our homepage keeps changing but will it be doing us any harm?
