I have to cut them twice a week otherwise he would scratch his head off, I have found a tiny nail clipper in ToysRUs that I have found easy to manage and can not cause much damage.

The steps to do it is:

1)Hold one finger at a time
2)Hold the finger with your index and thumb only
3)Your index has to be positioned over the nail and the thumb on the side oposite
4)Lower the tip of the baby's finger towards the palm using your thumb
5)Once the skin is out of the way cut the nail with the clippers. You don't need to clip them too short as once you release the finger the tip will go up and the tip of the nail will be shorter than the tip of the finger

Hope it helps, now if somebody has a technique to clean babies' teeth please let me know

PS I trim the nails near midnight when it's almost impossible to wake him up.

its almost impossible to wake me up at midnight!

haven't got to the tooth brushing stage yet but i'm guessing its a bit like dogs teeth. You need to get one of those brushes that goes on your finger. sorry to compare your baby to a dog.

I have never cut my DDs nails They are now 3 and almost 6. I am always terrified I am going to cut their fingers. DH has always done it.

Oh god beansmum, I did this with DS2, my third baby if you can believe it. He seemed to have really long nails but as he was only a few days old they were all still attached to the skin and I cut his fingers too as it were. I cried and so did he.

I am not a terrible mummy (so my DS1 says - "no mummy, you're a nice mummy") and neither are you.

Beansmum, I'm hopeless, I have never managed to brush my dogs' teeth, though I can clip the nails of one....
