right there with you - nasty business cutting nails! I try to wait until DS is sleeping but he has some kind of radar that warns him of my approach!

motherinferior · 02/09/2004 15:52

Done it with both mine

JJ · 02/09/2004 15:54

YES! I've done it with both.

I also was teaching one of the boys to cut with scissors and managed to cut his hand.

And I've nearly killed him a couple of times (not on purpose).

blueteddy · 02/09/2004 15:56

I did it too!
Dsi was 4 mths old when I snipped into his skin.
There was blood everywhere & I felt terrible.

MUMINAMILLION · 02/09/2004 15:57

Yes, cut half of dd2s finger off with clippers. The amount of blood produced was quite staggering but she survived and I wasnt locked up by social services.

Hulababy · 02/09/2004 15:59

I have done it before too, when DD was tiny :(

beansmum · 02/09/2004 15:59

so he's not going to be emotionally scarred for life because of this?

hercules · 02/09/2004 15:59

Bite them. Far easier and safer.

albert · 02/09/2004 16:04

beansmum, far from being a terrible mother this just makes you normal, we've all done it!!

SoupDragon · 02/09/2004 16:07

I cut DS1s ear once when cutting his hair...

TraceyP · 02/09/2004 16:55

Hercules is right - when they're tiny and their nails are soft it's easier to bite them. My husband thought I was mad - until the day he cut dd's finger when he was doing her nails and it bled for hours. Believe me, there are far worse things you could have done!

beansmum · 02/09/2004 16:58

just tried biting the rest of his nails off. he thinks it's really funny, strange boy.

suedonim · 02/09/2004 16:59

And I snipped dd1's neck when hair trimming. Loads of blood.

hercules · 02/09/2004 17:00

A good time to bite is after bath. Very soft nails then.

spots · 02/09/2004 17:04

have not yet mangled baby dd's fingers... feel i really ought to if I am going to be part of this mothering scene...

vict17 · 02/09/2004 17:06

I've done this too to ds when he was about 3 months. Had to cut up an adult plaster for his wee thumb. I don't think he even noticed but I felt rotten!

aloha · 02/09/2004 18:05

I refuse to do it for exactly this reason! Dh does it, while I can't even look...

LIZS · 02/09/2004 19:21

I did this to ds when I was getting him ready to take into my old work for the first time. Felt like blood everywhere but I think I was more upset than he was.

Heathcliffscathy · 02/09/2004 19:23

i did it...wait for it...3 times...cried for hours each time (ds cried for about 30 seconds). am now a pro with the clippers. couldn't bit his nails, far far too hard!

hercules · 02/09/2004 19:36

Do after a bath sophable. It is sooo easy. I did with both kids and never had blood as your mouth is so sensitive it is easy to feel their skin etc.

Heathcliffscathy · 02/09/2004 19:38

even after bath herc...believe me i tried! but we're fine now...i'm a pro!

Paula71 · 02/09/2004 20:54

beansmum when ds twins were born I bought little clippers out of Mothercare thinking they would be foolproof. Not for this fool!

I managed to nip both of them at some point. It is always when I am just at the snipping stage cutting through the nail when the little b*ggers move!

They soon learn to sit still!

beansmum · 02/09/2004 20:58

well as my dad said, at least i know hes not a haemophiliac

I cut ds nails at the weekend when dh is around to distract him and keep him still. I never attempt it when I'm alone.

I have twice nipped his fingers in the buckle of the car seat - loads of blood and much screaming (most of the screaming from me)
