NBuGgeration · 18/06/2007 13:52

The suggestion is to dress them in shorts and t shirt with a bucket and spade.

DD doesnt want to do that.

Great.

So what can I make thats to do with the seaside, I dont need a masters degree in to make and requires bizarre things to make it with?

Any ideas?
I am stumpted.

Iklboo · 18/06/2007 13:55

Orange tights & tshirt and go as a starfish?

NBuGgeration · 18/06/2007 13:55

bikin top, long wig (if she doesn't have requisite long hair), find a coloured sheet get some fabric pens and draw scales on glitter glue and wrap round her to imitate long tail thingie, clipping at back for easy escape when toilet required.....

Wisteria · 18/06/2007 13:58

starfish might be less time consuming and equally good; my girls always wanted to be 'pretty' things

LIZS · 18/06/2007 13:58

We had one similar recently - a lot of mermaids and surfers!

NBuGgeration · 18/06/2007 14:00

I've been dreading this fancy dress lark, lol.

Mermaid sounds relativley easy (she says).

Ice cream seller? (stripy apron and one of those "trays" like cinema usherettes carry with pretend ice creams in???)

skirmish · 18/06/2007 14:02

could go 'hawaiian' with grass skirt, lei of flowers etc...though, how you would make a grass skirt is beyond me!

LIZS · 18/06/2007 14:03

The mermaids were Arial style costumes. Or do as wisteria describes - I've used green net fabric for a tail before - and add shell nekclaces and deocrations.

BettySpaghetti · 18/06/2007 14:03

"Birthdays" the card shop had some beach/Hawaiian themed stuff in their window the other day (garlands, grass skirts etc) if thats any help

Black bin liner with twigs/sticks and something looking like a sea bird attached. -POLLUTION EPISODE - OIL SLICK ON THE BEACH

Bouquetsofdynomite · 18/06/2007 14:14

Mermaids are easy if you can find suitable fabric I have an old blue-green tiedye sarong which I wrap around DD and tie around her neck (she's 3 and v into mermaids.) Tiedye kits are good fun to play with anyway, you can make new 'holiday' clothes out of tatty old ones.

Alternatively, rolled up trousers, vest and knotted hankie on head?

NBuGgeration · 18/06/2007 14:16

lol at Grrrr suggestion

I have a pink tye dye sarong that I could use.

Carboard box with shoulder straps on, painted yellow, with castellation detail round top and a flag. Hey presto - sandcastle! And can be taken off as soon as everyone has admired it!

Wisteria · 18/06/2007 14:22

What a bloody good idea FMV and so simple - I will remember that! She could even decorate it herself so deffo win prize!

NBuGgeration · 18/06/2007 14:24

Good one FMV!

How would I do the square up and down bits or castellation as you put it and the flag?
Where would it go?

OP posts:
Wisteria · 18/06/2007 14:27

Could put a headband on her with flag attached - won't poke her in chin then

NBuGgeration · 18/06/2007 14:30

lol

Okey, I have a good image in my head of this. I'll give it a go and if it all goes boobs up I'll go to plan B of the Mermaid.

Fab, thanks everyone.
