Is 35 too old to have long hair?

I've just been looking at Rachel on Friends and how nice she looked with very long hair - the thing is at 35 I kind of feel I am too old for that kind of hairstyle but I kind of hanker after it (I had long hair for many years when younger). Do you think that women of my age should restrict themselves to shorter hairstyles or is it ok to go long again (despite also having a patch of grey I don't really want to dye out).
Not a very serious topic I know...

35 is fine, but I think once you go grey it's time for a cut.

It depends on your hair. If it is grey and looks like chewed string, chop it off. If there is lots of it and it is in good condition, why not? I have longish hair and am 39 (fat person hiding behind long hair )

No need to chop when grey. Highlight and stay long. Well I do and I'm well past 35...

As other people have said long hair on 'older' ladies is OK but it has to be well cut and in good condition. I have one friend who is well over 40 and has waist length blond pre-raphealite (sp?!) hair which looks like straw and does absolutely nothing for her. A shorter, sleaker look would take years off her I'm sure. Another friend has over treated straw-like hair at 40 but refuses to consider cutting it.

I had mine cut to a bob after having dd1 - it was easier to dry - I wash my hair every day. It's going very grey and I do colour it - not ready for that yet! I do wonder how I will get from dyed dark brown to grey and when I'll be ready for it but think it won;t be for another 10 years yet!! I do need a lot more conditioner and leave in stuff to keep the frizz out as it's naturally very curly.

You do have to work at it (as well as everything else in the looks maintenance department!) as you get older. Thinking that long natural looking hair is keeping you looking younger could be a mistake!!

I used to think that, but I'm 32 now and have no plans to cut all mine off in 2.5 years! Also no hair dye since the year before ds was born.

I had a very short hairstyle between 25 and 30 but I really love it long, though I suspect like Halle Berry I really look better with it short.

mumsnet is so spooky, i'm 35 with longish hair & was also watching Friends & wondering the same only yesterday. I'm feeling old cos everyone at work is younger than me & I feel like I'm heading for 40 & wondered if I should be looking "mature" by now, but can't say I feel it.
Have also been dying (dyeing?) since 17 so hope to remain blissfully ignorant of any grey. I like the versatility.
