Urgent - what's it like to live in Lancashire?

My friend's DH is in negotiations about moving to a company in Chorley. She lives near London and knows absolutely nothing about Lancashire at all. Can anyone help? Where should they look to live (or not)? What are the schools like (her eldest is going into yr 2)? Are there any good local websites that she could have a look at? Obviously they'll go up there and have a look but she wants to try and get a feel for things before they go.

I love this house - it's further up my road. Slight drawback to it is that at the very top of the road (half a mile or so) is the cement works, you can't see it from there and the entire town tends to get the dust (cars permanently filmed on the odd occasion it stops raining) but it can put people off.

OTOH you can walk into town and to schools.

mmmmm i love it too janh! can you find my dh a job up there? not that we could afford that

This is a good site - Selective Schools in Your Area - some have loads! No more in Lancs though.

DH comes from Adlington,a mile or so away from Chorley & as far as I'm concerned,it is lovely.The people are all a lot friendlier than in Leicestershire & I would have loved to have moved up there.

Dh went to a church primary in Adlington & St Albans High School after that.Both were very good at the time,but that was 20 odd years ago.

Inlaws are down here at the weekend,so will ask if you like.
