Wellllllllll

I am very much hoping to be moving soon, does that count? lol.

We have our house all set up ready to roll, mortgage all set up, now the hard part, we need to sell our house. Have been on the market for 5 weeks.

LoveMyGirls · 01/05/2007 08:35

As you asked so nicely you can join
as long as you tell me what you think about my dp wanting me to get a bar job when i have so much stuff to do ready for the move? (im thinking of compromising and getting a job after the move if business hasnt picked up?)

Have you followed the advice of the tv people who say to declutter, de-personalise and paint magnolia?

pucca · 01/05/2007 09:40

LMG...I tink the last thing you need is a job to throw into the mix, i would wait until you are settled then look.

Yes have de-cluttered, everywhere is magnolia but it is really doing my head in, i have 3yo dd and 9 mth old ds who obviously are the main offenders of the clutter lol.

I haven't even thought about the actual moving part yet, dreading that bit actually so just not thinking about it atm. As regards boxes, look on freecycle, we have had a few offering house moving boxes which would be a big help, so keep your eye out on that.

Sunyshineymummy · 01/05/2007 09:47

I get the keys to my new place today and we're going there this afternoon to stay over and look at nurseries for DS. Am very very excited - 'tis a long time since I had a garden and am over the moon DS is soon going to be in his own room. Still haven't found a moving firm but it's in process (following extortionate quote from Pickfords) and still haven't sold our place but hey ho, not going to let it stop my enjoyment.

peachygirl · 01/05/2007 10:05

Can I join in??
We exchanged on friday after the WORST sale process ever! I'm due to move on the 18th May.
I was wondering about asking Mumsnet towers for a property section there are often house threads (I've noticed them since we have been selling) and it's hard to know where to put them!... I'll do it now

pucca · 01/05/2007 10:10

Good idea PG, oh i wish we were about to exchange very of you,! did you struggle to sell? how long was your house on the market?

I am thoroughly hating it all, just wish it was all over with now.

Sorry i am moaning on, and it supposed to be a excited thread lol, i am excited or will be

Sunyshineymummy · 01/05/2007 10:15

We're struggling to sell and seem to have picked the worst agents ever to do it. Having to chase them for everything, and this is despite there apparently being a property shortage in my area! Am going to find a new agent that does Open Days. Still excited about this afternoon though!

peachygirl · 01/05/2007 10:15

I had a thread about my sale i'll find it

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 10:16

Ooh - me too !!! Can I join ??

We are probably moving at end May - should have been today but our sellers (who were the ones pushing for a quick completion) neglected to fill their forms in until about 10 days ago -and then had the cheek to hassle us and threaten to remarket our house !!

I refuse to stress about it though !

And I am having a full pack service from the removals so won't be stressing about that either ! I packed myself last time - boxes and bubble wrap and tape cost such a lot that I don't think it is that much more to ahve it done for you - plus there's the time ! I work full time - so no way can I do it !

Deep breaths everyone !!

peachygirl · 01/05/2007 10:18

here

Sunyshineymummy · 01/05/2007 10:20

SB who is doing your packing service? I got an extortionate quote from Pickfords the other day for £1700 to pack and move my 1 bed house from the City to SW London.

peachygirl · 01/05/2007 10:21

our buyer pulled out, after having spent his deposit! and our house went back on the market.
We then had other offers and he then appeared back on the scene. I kicked up a fuss last thursday and said we were having second thought about him and he was pushed to make a better commitment with the moving date we now have. It's been going on since November!!
We had to up our offer on our new house

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 10:23

I'm using Bishops Move - they were £200 less that Pickfords - though will still be £2K for a 5 bed to 4 bed hse in Hampshire !

last time I used a cheap local firm and they were so crap I would never do it again. Loads of damage to house and furniture, snippy young lads, sexist banter - YUCK !

besidetheseaside · 01/05/2007 10:26

ooh peachygirl, we're supposed to be moving on the 18th too, but we can't exchange until then cos our buyers don't have a deposit.
It's all going to be a bit uncertain up until the very last moment!
But we've started packing anyway, well started throwing stuff out - took four bags of stuff to a charity shop at the weekend

Peachy I looked at your thread and that's worse than ours.

  1. I saw and put an offer in on our new house when DP was away on holiday.
  2. Offer went to sealed bids and we ended up paying £5k over asking price.
  3. Buyer chose us as we didn't have to sell, but then told us we couldn't move in until 1st June as she hadn't found anywhere and wasn't rushing as she's pregnant. We have our 13m old DS in our room at the moment, so eventually we agreed we'd be in today.
  4. DP came to visit house and noticed loads of things he didn't like about it. Nearly pulled out but decided to go ahead.
  5. Survey came back with loads of problems, worst of which is roof, which needs £7k to fix and mortgage lender knocked £10k off value.
  6. Vendor refused to renegotiate price as prices have risen by £30-£40k in her area.
  7. Eventually after much wrangling, and only because she'd found a house and they were hassling her to complete she knocked off £2k!
  8. We then discovered our mortgager offer had run out, couldn't get a mortgage as good so now on a Tracker rate (and it looks as if interest rates are about to rise).
  9. Now decided to sell our flat to fix roof and have loft converted and struggling to sell it! Has been v. stressful and DS seems to have picked up on it, and stopped sleeping as well as he had been, but I complete today and get my keys this afternoon, so refuse to be anything other than optimistic and happy!
saintmaybe · 01/05/2007 10:33

We're supposed to exchange at the end of May. I'm supposed to be decluttering NOW!

But instead I'm typing about it

besidetheseaside · 01/05/2007 10:37

go for it saintmaybe - decluttering can be quite cathartic when you get into it

saintmaybe · 01/05/2007 10:40

Yes!

(we've been here 10 years, I'm crap at throwing things out and we're going to a smaller house with no loft [scared but brave emoticon]

peachygirl · 01/05/2007 10:43

It is just anightmare isn' it sunyshiney. I'm just fed up of it all and I do believe it has overshadowed the first weeks of DD's life
I have people coming to give us quotations for removals today and tomorrow and then will be looking at decluttering. We have done a little bit already. I feel I can't get too excited after everything we have been through

besidetheseaside · 01/05/2007 10:51

well, we've only been here for years, but we're losing a whole garage. Looking through all the junk I realised it was about time I chucked out the boxes of old cassette tapes I've been lugging everywhere with me since I left home

besidetheseaside · 01/05/2007 10:52

oops, should be been here for four years...

saintmaybe · 01/05/2007 16:29

aaargh! just come home to a message that three-up-the-chain might pull out!!

Oh no.PLEASE send good luck vibes to me

pucca · 01/05/2007 16:54

Well we had a viewing booked for 4pm, it turned out to be Frank Gallagher (shameless) and wife! lol.

Decided our house is no good, as stairs are very steep (its a terrace!) and won't be able to fit a stairlift.

Think our EA are in need of a severe kick up the arse!
