Does anyone know of any websites which sells cool art which would look good in a nursery?

I haven't made my mind up on any themes or anything yet. I just want something that is original.

And by 'art' I mean pictures/wall hangings etc. Not a nice sculpture

What, real original not poster print?

Ilovemyboy · 16/04/2007 21:27

PMSL

Nope, just original in idea. Don't want any Disney, Pooh Bear or anything like that.

Depends on your budget but I went to the Chris Beetles gallery in London - they specialise in illustrators and have some lovely children's illustrator exhibitions including some amazing Arthur Rackhams. I was hoping for a Quentin Blake but they were beyond my budget. I ended up with some lovely, lovely black and white illustrations

including one by this artist

not quite art but in a similar vein, the wall stickers from Blik are pretty cool

TheBlonde · 16/04/2007 21:35

Go on, you know you want some original art

margoandjerry - some of those are beautiful but well out of my price range. Shame

why don't you do one?

liquidclocks · 16/04/2007 21:43

Get yourself down the works, buy a canvas and some paints and have a go yourself!

MrsBadger · 16/04/2007 21:44

Daddytypes posts about art quite a lot - do a search and sift through

he recommended this place - makes sense to buy in the US with the dolar so weak at the moment...

Ilovemyboy · 16/04/2007 21:51

Dimpledthighs - I have a mate who loves painting so might ask her to do one for me.

I like the Georgina Hargreaves illustration on the right-hand side on this site...

I know you can get images copied onto canvas. Would I need to find a high-res copy of that pic and send it to someone who could do that?

I have never done anything like this so any help is appreciated.

MrsBadger - Those prices are . There is some lovely stuff on there though.

Maybe making my own would mean more to DS in the long run. It'd be a nice little keepsake for him.

I really think yu sould do your own - would be so personal and you will get what you want. Keep it simple but be brave and get proper paints and canvas. You may unleash a new part of your life!

(will you post a pic on here?!?!

Ilovemyboy · 16/04/2007 22:04

I'm not sure I'm confident enough not to balls it up though.

I have never been good at art and don't want to waste money on good paints and canvas for me to spoil it.

Might ask my friend though. She has one of her canvas' hanging over her fireplace and it looks pretty good.

I'm trying to think of inspiration and I keep coming up with stuff that made me buzz when I was little (Enid Blyton /Roald Dahl/Janet and Alan Ahlberg poetry and some others).

Could you paint a mural on your dc wall yourself. I have a friend who does this for a living and they are lovely.

DH did it himself on ds wall, scanned a picture from a book onto his laptop, borrowed a projector, traced the outline onto the wall, then painted in. Looks really good. He is fairly artistic but not amazingly so and you could always paint over it if it looks awful.

Bucketsofdynomite · 17/04/2007 08:08

This site is hours of fun to browse, most of them come in different sizes. But then I'm the kind of person who buys art purely to match decor.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/04/2007 08:10

I'm an artist who is need of some cash. I'll do a painting for you if you want.

nappyaddict · 17/04/2007 13:57

ooooh will you do me one too?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/04/2007 17:51

no prob. just let me know what you want and what size and i'll let you know how much it'll cost ya!

nappyaddict · 17/04/2007 18:00

what sort of things can you do? do you have an pictures of paintings you've done?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/04/2007 19:16

I've never actually done anything for a kids room before. there's a (very small!) picture of some of my paintings in my profile. I'll see if I can find any more.

nappyaddict · 17/04/2007 19:26

you could make those knitted toys and sell them, they are lovely.

can you do oil paintings? how much would we be looking at for something say a3 size on canvas.

is it just painting you do or can you say do anything in charcoal?

can you paint or draw people at all?

sorry about all the questions!
