Do you REALLY notice what your friends are wearing?

because I swear I don't ..

I'm not talking nights out or meeting a new person for the first time

but honestly truly, would you really notice what a friend was wearing?

Not unless it was fantasticllt lovely or really awful!

MamaG · 13/04/2007 09:53

yes, especially shoes.

I ALWAYS look at people's shoes - not in a judgmental way (unless they are wearing crocs of course) but just to nosy.

Y0rkshirelass · 13/04/2007 09:54

I do, especially shoes and accessories

Gobbledigook · 13/04/2007 09:54

Yes. Always. Clothes and shoes.

burek · 13/04/2007 09:54

Always. And I will always compliment a good look. But I will only comment on a bad look if I think she/he will take it well.

Cashncarry · 13/04/2007 09:55

That's weird because I was thinking about this the other day. I think it applies to more than clothes though. For instance, when you first meet someone, you notice if they have bad teeth, a funny eye, weird moles etc.

Then if you get to know them and become good mates, you only notice nice things - pretty clothes, nice make-up, when they lose weight etc.

Twiglett · 13/04/2007 09:55

shit

that'll be why I keep getting friends offering to take me shopping then?

I honestly truly don't notice .. I'd notice if you looked particularly nice but not an individual item .. I'd notice if you looked particularly foul too .. but I wouldn't notice if you wore the same things twice on the run

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 13/04/2007 09:59

No, I wouldn't.

Twiglett · 13/04/2007 10:01

I've been wearing really bad shoes recently .. I hate them

but they're so incredibly comfy

but they are black and fairly plain so I assume nobody would notice them under my jeans

or maybe they're so ugly they're actually in style because I don't like any of the styles in the shops .. ballet shoes yuk, crocs yuk

I'm going to get some of those campers Tinker suggested ....oi loike 'em

I do. Generally because I think most people seem to be able to choose clothes that look really nice on them and I feel like a troll most mornings when I throw on my jeans and t-shirt AGAIN.
I'll always say if they look nice.

charliecat · 13/04/2007 10:04

No and I laugh at my mum and my other half when they spend so long getting ready to go to boots or superdrug or the pub in the afternoon.
People really do have better things to think about than what that stranger over there is wearing. Honestly they do.

Tommy · 13/04/2007 10:10

I don't notice at all - possibly because I don't care what people wear.

I never notice what other Mummies are wearing at school either unless it's particularly noticeable IYSWIM. I really am not bothered by what other people wear

MrsWho · 13/04/2007 11:37

No I don't unless its something particluarly distinctive or totally differnt to their normal clothes.

GamePointGary · 13/04/2007 11:38

yes

yes I do

but I love clothes and find them interesting

Enid · 13/04/2007 11:45

I can honestly say I don#'t judge people though

unless it is truly shocking

saadia · 13/04/2007 11:46

I notice some people, who put some thought into it. There are others who always seem to wear variations of the same outfit so it always ends up looking the same.

MrsBadger · 13/04/2007 11:46

I notice what people are wearing but only in a vague kind of way unless it's particualrly distinctive.

eg today I've especially noted:
PhD student in unseasonably short skirt (flirting with someone)
senior bod wearing navy trousers and navy court shoes with white socks (blee)
youngish pretty postdoc with good figure, who to my despair constantly wears awful frumpy sacklike clothes, wearing an unusually flattering top so I said how nice it looked.

Otherwise everyone is wearing trousers and tshirts so not notice-worthy.

Tutter · 13/04/2007 11:47

i do

but then again i am somewhat obsessed by such things

not just clothes per se, but more how you go about wearing clothes that are right for you, look good on you, make you feel good etc etc etc

and am amazed how some people just get it right all the time, and others, well, don't

Cashncarry · 13/04/2007 11:49

Oh my God - you're all far too observant

Don't want to be friends with any of you

belgo · 13/04/2007 11:51

I always notice what they're wearing. And what their kids are wearing. If I like it, i tell them.

Tutter - you're right - some people just get it wrong all the time.

luckylady74 · 13/04/2007 11:56

yes for inspiration then i have to confess that i've bought the same thing though!

princessmel · 13/04/2007 12:00

Yes, always.

I like to see what they've chosen and if I like it etc.

I tell them and ask where its from etc.

I love clothes.

Lact8 · 13/04/2007 12:07

Yes, I always notice what people are wearing. I love clothes, shoes, bags, accessories.

I particularly look forward to seeing one friend, she has the best style of anyone I know, completely her own, really individual, she manages to find fab skirts etc that I would like a right wally in but she can pull it off. Every Thursday I think, 'I wonder what x'll be wearing today'

I can't believe you don't like ballet shoes! They're so comfy, cheap (in Primark) Look good with jeans or a skirt
