I thought you were beautiful when I met you!!

What exactley is wrong (in your mind) with the said eye lid?

spacemonkey · 15/07/2004 13:32

Don't we all do this? I know I do and it's horrible I broke my nose when I was 12 and my face is all wonky as a result. Other people say it doesn't really notice but I notice it and think it looks really ugly.

I'm just trying to learn to look at the good points and not get too down about it because a) I can't afford surgery and b) if I had one thing done I'd just start obsessing over something else instead ...

mrsflowerpot · 15/07/2004 13:33

I've got a wonky face, one eye a bit smaller than the other - it's the eyelid I think. I notice it, but when I tell people they look at me like I'm mad.

What I really really wish though is that when I was 18 I had realised how nice I looked and not obsessed about my shape and my face and everything else - would give a fortune to look like that again now! It scares me that in another 15 years I might be wishing I looked like I do now...

jampot · 15/07/2004 13:35

When I was growing up I was convinced I had a big nose and it really used to annoy me. Now my dd is 11 she has started thinking she has a big nose.

DD: I hate my face, especially my nose - it's huge

Me: Don't be silly, it's lovely. I used to think I had a big nose when I was your age.

DD: You have!

lou33 · 15/07/2004 13:39

Don't even start me on this. I am really really unhappy with the way I look. I try and avoid looking in mirrors because of it.

My nose is too straight. But given that I never see myself side on I don't really care!

Also am v fat at the moment, need to lose a couple of stones.

mummytosteven · 15/07/2004 13:40

not 100% happy, but a lot better than when I was growing up. When I was at primary school a little beast told me "I was the ugliest girl in the world". God knows how long it has taken me to get over that!

galaxy - I think that spacemonkey is right - even if you did get your eyelid fixed, you would still not be happy, and end up wanting to get something else fixed. just sounds like you're a bit unsymetrical - and the sort of thing only you would really notice - like people complaining about a huge spot, and you only notice it coz they are pointing it out to you.

spacemonkey · 15/07/2004 13:43

countess you are so right!

mummytosteven · 15/07/2004 13:43

Lou - you look very nice (tho a touch ghostly on the photo of you on this site)

moominmama86 · 15/07/2004 13:44

I've got a lazy eye, terrible teeth, spotty chin and a fat bum. I used to dream of having cosmetic dentistry and when things got really bad I would cry myself to sleep over how awful I thought I looked. I genuinely cannot bear to look at photographs or film of myself - not just in a fishing-for-compliments way - and I cried when I saw my wedding video because I thought I looked so awful.

But then sometimes I also think I look pretty good, and I know I've never had too much trouble 'being fancied' IYKWIM, so... I do think we all concentrate so much on our bad points and don't emphasise the good stuff, but it's easier said than done sometimes.

lou33 · 15/07/2004 13:45

It's about how I feel though galaxy, and I am bordering on dysmorphic I think, wrt my body image.

CountessDracula · 15/07/2004 13:45

Also, unless you look like someone from uglypeople.com it is more your personality that people are concerned with than whether you have a funny eyelid, overly straight nose or big teeth.

lou33 · 15/07/2004 13:46

Lol @ ghostly!

It's a passport photo, need I say more?!

I do have v pale skin though.

Sm is not wonky faced btw, she is incredibly attractive.

spacemonkey · 15/07/2004 13:47

yes, I always say to myself "if i was that hideous, no-one would ever fancy me, and i know for a fact x/y/z fancies me ergo i'm obviously not as hideous as i think i am"

or something

it's a good strategy though

CountessDracula · 15/07/2004 13:47

Right I want photos of you all through CAT so can tell you how silly you're being!

lou33 · 15/07/2004 13:48

shudders at that thought

CountessDracula · 15/07/2004 13:50

Lou I don't need yours can see you on the mods page silly billy!

SoupDragon · 15/07/2004 13:51

God, I wish my passport photo looked like that. I look like the bride of frankenstein in mine! Better than the discarded photo in which I looked like a 49 year old mother of 6 though.

lou33 · 15/07/2004 13:52

It's 3 years out of date though cd.

moominmama86 · 15/07/2004 13:52

lou - are you SN moderator? Then you are gorgeous...
