Me and my Mooncup (Warning - TMI in this thread!)

I've had it for several months now, getting on better and better with it. But the more comfortable I get with it, the more problems I'm having: (here comes the TMI bit) fanny farts and leaks. What am I doing wrong? Any advice?

are you checking to see if it has expanded/flipped open when you insert it.I still check it every time because I leaked a few times and it hadn't even though i had got so used to it just pinging open.have I made sense?

mummysurfer · 14/07/2004 22:06

yeah, make sure, you twist it once it's in.
ff noises - i only get these when i'm trying to remove it. or (tmi) when i'm having poo

marthamoo · 14/07/2004 22:08

barney23 · 14/07/2004 22:32

marthamoo · 14/07/2004 22:35

barney23 · 14/07/2004 22:36

marthamoo · 14/07/2004 22:44

It's HUGE too!

barney23 · 14/07/2004 22:45

is it really better then tampons, since my last one, now 16monhts, ivenot been able to use tampons, just find they are soo uncomforatble, would this be worth a shot, i hate towels

marthamoo · 14/07/2004 23:03

Many many people swear by them - but I just could not get on with it. I can't bear tampons either and I hate towels (I'm a sensitive wee flower..) You can give it a go for 3 months and send it back if you don't like it. I did, but I have no shame.

You can wash it in the dishwasher you know...

twitcher · 14/07/2004 23:17

there is an american version called the keeper - not silicone but latex rubber. I bought one before I heard of the mooncup (more expensive). Had loads of leakages and 'air bubbles', cut off the 'tail' and it has been much better since then.

beety, where do you get organic tampons from?

granarybeck · 15/07/2004 09:44

sainsburys sell organic tampons

prettycandles · 15/07/2004 11:28

Well, all I can say is that it's lucky that AF has 'gone home', because if I had the Mooncup in right now I really would be PMSL!

I'm determined to get it right, because when I do the thing is so much more comfortable and cleaner than pads or tampons. And I've twisted it, tugged it, checked as far as I could to make sure that it was fully open. I thought maybe there was another trick. Ah well, try again next month.

BTW you can get organic sanitary protection from Spirit of Nature , and most of the 'green' companies that do washable nappies and organic stuff also do organic women's stuff. Now if you wanted to be really green, you could use washable sanipads!

just had a look at the website - which way up does it go?!?!?!?!

Tissy · 15/07/2004 11:47

Pointy end down!

It collects the blood (hence "cup" ) and you remove it and tip it down the loo!

I'm very pleased with mine- get the occasional leak when it's too full- but much less than an over-full tampon

Just feeling glad no periods yet since DS was born - really don't feel I could cope with a Mooncup though...
