Proably French on the basis that they probably do this in school anyway. Football I'd keep as it's physical excercise which is great and piano is good for devlopment and something kids find easier the earlier they learn.

Would prefer to keep all three though! whcy hoose one to drop?

FooFooTrue · 22/03/2007 14:47

I'd def keep football as it will keep ds/dd fit and social. Piano is a good skill to have but most kids give up after a while! French is useful for later school but you could always teach it yourself (with some good books!)

mylittlestar · 22/03/2007 14:48

french club I think

sport is great. piano great to learn from young age. french can come later

ScummyMummy · 22/03/2007 14:49

I would let ds choose for himself.

RedLorryYellowLorry · 22/03/2007 14:51

French Club

madmarchhare · 22/03/2007 14:53

Is letting him choose an option?

raspberryberet · 22/03/2007 14:54

What does the six year old in question want to keep? I'd stick with the ones they enjoy most at this age.

majorstress · 22/03/2007 14:58

choose the one that would be his favourite, plus the one that would be most "out of the box"-I insisted dd do football as well as her own choices, and it has really paid off in terms of her physical development and confidence enjoyment, and popularity with a "different" set of classmates. I was just being bolshy because everyone labels her as a delicate bookish crybaby type and she isn't that simple.

mysonsmummy · 22/03/2007 15:07

i would let him choose for himself - whats the point of making him to go a club when he'd prefer another.

Beetrootccio · 22/03/2007 15:09

football and piano

learning french in a club was a total waste of time for my sons

Beetrootccio · 22/03/2007 15:10

lets allsing silly songs and colour in - bloody francais club whatever it is called

bozza · 22/03/2007 15:11

So why is he dropping one?

Tanee58 · 22/03/2007 15:17

keep the football & piano - unless he has a particular feeling for dropping one himself. He'll do french anyway and, as someone earlier said, you can do it with him.

portonovo · 22/03/2007 15:19

Drop the one that either the child doesn't want to do as much, or the one that fits in least with your lifestyle/other commitments.

At 6, no clubs are really needed anyway.

All 3 are things that can/will be picked up later anyway.

Yep, drop French. They'll learn it at school anyway.

CAM · 22/03/2007 15:29

I would let the boy choose.

Twiglett · 22/03/2007 15:34

because 3 after school activities is too much .. 2 is even too much but I can just about stand it .. need time for family nights and playdates

he loves french club .. and they don't do it in school .. teacher says he's good ... I have the feeling that this is something they should do young and keep up so the pathways to a new language are formed easily (or is that new age bollocks)

he isn't that keen on football but enjoys going because his friends go and I think its quite important .. he certainly isn't a play football at lunchtime type

the piano (well keyboard) is a new thing that's come up and I think music is important and also is not offered in school

I'd let him choose Twiglet

Twiglett · 22/03/2007 15:43

not letting him choose he's 6 not a teen or an adult

if he didn't enjoy something I would never make him go though and if he wanted specifically to do a club I'd find one for him

please trust that I know him rather well and its not appropriate for him to choose, but thanks for your advice anyway

piano

Marina · 22/03/2007 15:44

From what you've just said, I'd stick with French and piano, and let the football go.

madmarchhare · 22/03/2007 15:45

Drop the piano then.

zippitippitoes · 22/03/2007 15:45

it's quite difficult at 6 and if he does it later then he will do just as well

Twiglett · 22/03/2007 15:48

the keyboard is a new opportunity for next term that I'm considering .. he currently does french (has done for 4 terms) and football (for 3 terms)

I'll see if I can get him a trial session maybe
