Dp and I are getting married in February and a friend of his who has a fantastic voice and plays guitar wonderfully has offered to sing at our wedding while we sign the register.

So I need suggestions! Ones that have been mentioned so far are, Have I told you lately and Tupelo Honey from Van Morrison, Fields of Gold, Sting, my dd suggested Everything I do, but I think its a bit cheesey, Paul Simon, Something so right, but it has the line in it 'can't get used to something so right' which isn't really what I want! Heaven by Bryan Adams and on the lighter side, Will you still love me tomorrow and Heaven knows I'm miserable now!!

What do you all think? We probably need about three songs.

SoupDragon · 11/07/2004 19:55

Is the singer male or female?

xoz · 11/07/2004 20:00

We had "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole, then "Romeo & Juliet" by Dire Straits, then "Song for Guy" by Elton John (an instrumental) although these were on tape and not live performances. All nice songs...
Good luck finding something nice... HTH

I think 'Wonderful World' is a fab song for a wedding.

Words are:

I see trees of green red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people goin' by
I see friends shaking hands saying "how do you do"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cry I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world
Oh yeah

This website is really good for wedding music

We chose 'Always and Forever' and 'Eternal Flame'.

My sister had 'Deeply Dippy'.

I actually heard about someone who had 'I Touch Myself' which certainly embarassed all the older generation!

fairyfly · 11/07/2004 20:12

Can i wear white and a veil? How are you doing are you excited?

Janstar · 11/07/2004 20:15

Will it be in church, lilibet? I remember from ours that at a civil wedding you're not allowed to use songs with any kind of religious reference in them, so it narrows it down a little.

Janstar · 11/07/2004 20:15

Proclaimers, ff? Are you sure?

lilibet · 11/07/2004 20:16

I'm spending all my spare time (3 children, 2 cats, 30 hour a week job, OU degree, so loads of that !!) thnking about stuff like this!

Just want everything to be perfect!

And to cost next to nothing

If you wear a veil you'll be the only one!

CountessDracula · 11/07/2004 20:18

As time goes by?
Can't help falling in love (Elvis)
Eternal Flame (Bangles)
Lean on me (Bill Withers)
Something (Beatles) (very lovely)
Something Changed (Pulp, always makes me cry and would be so suitable for a wedding!)

CountessDracula · 11/07/2004 20:20

Oh here we are...

"Something Changed"

I wrote the song two hours before we met.
I didn't know your name or what you looked like yet.
Oh I could have stayed at home and gone to bed.
I could have gone to see a film instead.
You might have changed your mind and seen your friends
Life could have been very different then but something changed.
Do you believe that there's someone up above?
Does he have a timetable directing acts of love?
Why did I write this song on that day?
Why did you touch my hand and softly say.
Stop asking questions that don't matter anyway.
Just give us a kiss to celebrate here today something changed.
When we woke up that morning we had no way of knowing
That in a matter of hours we'd change the way we were going.
Where would I be now if we'd never met.
Would I be singing this song to someone else instead I dunno
But like you said something changed.

StickyNote · 11/07/2004 20:23

I've got goosebumps reading this thread - will go off and have a good cry (sniff)

fairyfly · 11/07/2004 20:26

Down from the doorway
and into the street
I hear the morning bell
over and over the pattern repeat
I hear the morning bell
and all the faces cold as stone
in the January chill
you have led me into worlds unknown
and I'm walking there still

Everytime now
everytime now
I think of you mine now
I just can't contain
I'm seven feet tall and
there's nightingales calling
shooting stars falling
like jewels in the rain

I ask myself I ask myself
can this life be the same
that spun me round and put me down
and fill me up with shame
and all the heads are turning now
down the Tottenham court road
cause I just can't help but sing it out
case I just might explode

Everytime now
everytime now
I think of you mine now
I can't comprehend
the saxophones blowing
cherry trees growing
right here in my hand

A dance in the moonlight
so high on a June night
magazines strewn right
over the chair
your spine a white ladder
your eyes singing sadder
nothing else seems to matter
as soon as you're there
and everytime now
everytime now
I think of you mine now
I just can't contain
I'm seven feet tall and
there's nightingales calling
shooting stars falling
like jewels in the rain
everytime now
everytime now
everytime now
everytime
and la la la na etc.

David Gray, Everytime
