DP has had all DS's curls chopped off....

And I'm feeling really sick about it.
DS, nearly three, had a distinctive and gorgeous mop of dark curls, the kind complete strangers stop dead in their tracks to admire. DP went to the barber yesterday for his own headshave, and asked him to 'trim' DS's hair. REsult: short hair, no curls.
I know it's trivial in th long run, but it feels as if my baby has grown up over night, lost a distinctive characteristic of his looks, and won't look like 'him' in his birthday photos in two weeks time.

Thoroughly exasperated and upset with DP as I had said before that we should take him to a proper hairdresser. He was trying to save money. (and we are really not that pushed financially to worry about a £6 difference).

How can I regain my calm?

My dd1 does tend to resemble Harpo Marx

Wig idea totally fab.

marialuisa, i take it you're not a sentimental horder like me then
(I have her first chopped hair - first babygrow - first dummy....need i go on)

Fairyfly · 06/07/2004 23:18

Shave his eyebrows off

Blu · 06/07/2004 23:24

Snort: Angeliz! (re wig!)
MI: Crabs - possibly. Less chance of catching them

Marialuisa: I cut my own hair with ruthless abandon, and am no general fan of gratuitous long hair. But DS's curls are just part of his overall look. He is completely different without them, and it will take 6 months to get them back.

ANYWAY DP has just come home with a big box of belgian Chocs to say he's sorry, so I'm suddely feeling much calmer!

MotherInferior's DD looks nothing like Harpo marx! She is an absolute bundle of gorgeousness, and one of the reasons i wsa so upset was because the Infanta and BluJunior just look so scrummy together with their blonde and dark curls, and now the Infanta will probably jilt him for someone else.

Get DP
Strip him naked
Tie him to the bed
Leer at him suggestively

Then shave the bastards pubes off

Oh Blu, what a pig. Bloody men, why are they so insecure?
Hope your ds's hair grows back soon. In the meantime, have you considered making him have some sensitive part of his anatomy waxed? That'd put him off hair removal for life, I should think .

misdee · 07/07/2004 01:45

my hairdressers refuses to cut dd2 curls. i can just about get her to cut her fringe so she can see where she is going. i'm sorried if they get cut then she will have straight hair and no longer have cute ringlets.

Lisa, that's so funny...you're all making me laugh!

well, I have just about forgiven DP now - first the chocolates, and then last night DS was sick and wet the bed and DP dealt with the whole lot leaving me to sleep on.

Now all I have to do is skip over into the Spiritual Board and have everyone send vibes and energies and suggest esoteric herbal teas to ensure a quick grow-back.
Thank you all for indomitable MN support in my hour of crisis. (lurve icon).

are you feeling better now? how did ds take it, any reaction?

tigermoth · 09/07/2004 11:53

it's been four days now, hope those curls are growing back extra quick!

Yes, I'd have felt upset, too. Hope the chocolates helped a little.
