Any good ideas as to where i can purchase something stunning but comfortable for a friends wedding - I'm a size 18 (and trying to slim!) but don't know where to start looking for posh frocks!!! All advice welcome (except the obvious - "Loose weight!"

I thought I had put this one on while I was asleep/drunk/comatose.

spare a thought for a poor bride to be who is a 14/16 and every sodding wedding dress shop only does dresses in a bloody 8/10 and the very occasional 12

And if one more stick insect offers to let me try on a 10's and 'hold the back together'I will take her bloody dress and stick it where the sun doon't shine !!!

Anyhow, sorry for that little rant, other than the obvious places I have no suggestions for you - really hope you get fixed up, its very dispiriting trudging round and everything is a little size.

how posh is the wedding?

Babyannabel · 05/07/2004 20:14

Monsoon are lovely, how about a lovely skirt with a posh cardi from Boden? In fact, Boden do up to a 20 (their sale is on at the moment!).

jampot · 05/07/2004 20:18

Principals also do some cracking stuff up to size 20, Country Casuals I think do stuff up to an 18 (and its not all tweed skirts)

CountessDracula · 05/07/2004 20:19

Ghost?

jampot · 05/07/2004 20:21

House of Fraser carry some nice larger stuff - a friend of mine bought a beautiful pink suit (sounds crap, looks lovely) from Rackhams in Brum -

CountessDracula · 05/07/2004 20:22

linea (house of fraser) do lovely stuff, not certain they do an 18 but certainly 16

Jennisaurus · 05/07/2004 20:26

Dorothy perkins does some nice stuff sometimes. M&S is always an old favourite.

Principles is great for weddings as well.

codswallop · 05/07/2004 20:27

I would go for palazzo pants a close fitting tunic stlye top and a long frock style coat with fabbo bright badg and shoes

codswallop · 05/07/2004 20:30

a coat like this pink one?

codswallop · 05/07/2004 21:02

that sounds nice
and wearable again?
bet the ptsl doing the photos

katie37 · 05/07/2004 21:21

Yes wore it again for DS 1st communion beg of june.

I will wear it again at school functions at DH school.

I chose it to be plain so I could swap tops underneath and swap scarves to add colour.

what is ptsl?

the models are friends and customers, they are very friendly and helpful when you ring up.

I got sent loads of shoes and boots as I couldn't decide which I wanted so I tried them on with the outfit and then sent the ones back that did not fit.

I got shoes and boots. I wear size 9 so any shoes etc that fit I get.

As it is very difficult to find ones that do.

codswallop · 05/07/2004 21:22

"pissed themselves laughing"

katie37 · 05/07/2004 21:23

I know what u mean

motherinferior · 05/07/2004 22:04

Lillibet, have you tried Monsoon?

Tanzie · 06/07/2004 01:15

Why are all dresses for larger women sleeveless? The last thing I want to show is my arms - or is it just a ruse to get you to buy a jacket or wrap thing to cover them up. I thought the box2 stuff looked designed to make someone who is already large look even bigger. The last thing you want if you are big is swathes of floaty fabric on top and bottom. Go for a pretty floaty skirt, by all means, but have a more fitted top, something with a scoop/lowish neck to show your cleavage. Or a fitted jacket. Boden tops, tho pretty come up very short, so if you have a largish chest and/or are tall, they will hover around your tummy button which is not a particularly flattering length.

Try Monsoon, or if you are feeling flush, Marina Rinaldi (Selfridges stock if you are in London, as do some of the House of Fraser shops) sometimes have some nice things.

Good luck - let us know what you get!
