Sick Advert on Local Radio Station Website.... What should I do??

Toothache · 21/06/2004 17:36

I went onto Central FM's website as I'm wanting to sell a wardrobe and sofabed. They do free advertising so thought it a good place to start.

Whilst there I had a browse around the Toy Section to see if there were any good bargain. Some sick pervert has advertised Child Porn for Sale!

It goes into a bit of detail and explains that all photos are taken in his own living room and there's a mobile number to call.
I found it really upsetting and emailed the radio station through the "Contact Us" link to ask them to remove it. The email was returned to me.

What should I do? Should I just ignore it?? Should I call the radio station?? Should I notify the police??? Surely even pretending about this stuff is illegal?

Advice please..

Call the radio station and the police .

jampot · 21/06/2004 17:37

I think I'd be inclined to call the Police... maybe even call in to the radio station during an interview and ask what they propose to do about it..

zubb · 21/06/2004 17:38

I think you should definatley let the radio station know. I would be very tempted to let the police know as well.

Angeliz · 21/06/2004 17:38

Yes,i think i'd call both!!

Bettybloo · 21/06/2004 17:39

I'd call the police definitely.

Toothache · 21/06/2004 17:40

Thanks folks... I'll do that. How sad though... it explains what the photos contain. I can't believe they've let that sit there.

Please toothache call the police, I find this unbelievable!!!

gscrym · 21/06/2004 17:46

Complain to Central FM and let them know you've informed or are going to inform the police. Chuck in a few sentences involving the radio licensing authority and the obscene publications act.

sponge · 21/06/2004 17:51

This is completely illegal and if the station know about it they're in a lot of trouble. Call the police.

Toothache · 21/06/2004 17:52

I've just rechecked and it wasn't Cnetral FM it was Scot Ads free newspaper.... I've placed my items for sale on both and got mixed up! Either way the email was returned. I just revisited the website and found another email address so have sent an email there. There is no phone number anywhere on the website.

I also checked the advertisment and it is still there. It's actually a video he's selling for £5.

wouldn't bother with the company as IMO they shoul be aware of whats being advertised on there site.

Call the police.

gscrym · 21/06/2004 17:59

I thought you had already phoned. I went to find it to complain aswell and I kept getting messages saying there was a problem with their site, please come back later.
Definately phone the police. Did you take a note of any of the details.

Branster · 21/06/2004 18:06

Phone the police asap and get them to act as quick as possible. i wouldn't try with the advertisment company as clearly they're not that bothered if you cannot contact them directly. it is unacceptable and illegal. must phone the police, they take this cases seriously.

bunny2 · 21/06/2004 18:07

how disgusting, hopw can people find that funny??? Hope you get a decent reponse from the police. You could also try writing to local papers. Good luck.

lou33 · 21/06/2004 18:15

gscrym - I had emailed them. There is no phone number. I just posted my Ad through the website.

The site is www.scotads.com and it says it isn't in conjunction with the ScotAds Newspaper.

PLEASE EVERYONE COMPLAIN!

The guy's advertisement had a hotmail address and also a phone number. It's an Alloa number. All you have to do to register is give an email address and assign a password, so anyone could post there anonymously. Dangerous eh??? I think I will report them to the advertising standards agency and I'll phone the police when I get home at 4.30pm.

Thanks all.

Contact the police. Forget complaining to the website as the only ones able to do anything real about this are the police.

SoupDragon · 21/06/2004 19:13

My gut feeling is that this is a sick "joke" though. The people who really do this sort of thing aren't so stupid as to advertise like that with a phonenumber.

lou33 · 21/06/2004 19:17

I hope so Soups. A visit by a couple of policemen would be good either way though, I think .

lou33 · 21/06/2004 19:17

Have you called the police Toothache?
