Sick Advert on Local Radio Station Website.... What should I do??

Toothache · 21/06/2004 17:36

I went onto Central FM's website as I'm wanting to sell a wardrobe and sofabed. They do free advertising so thought it a good place to start.

Whilst there I had a browse around the Toy Section to see if there were any good bargain. Some sick pervert has advertised Child Porn for Sale!

It goes into a bit of detail and explains that all photos are taken in his own living room and there's a mobile number to call.
I found it really upsetting and emailed the radio station through the "Contact Us" link to ask them to remove it. The email was returned to me.

What should I do? Should I just ignore it?? Should I call the radio station?? Should I notify the police??? Surely even pretending about this stuff is illegal?

Advice please..

No NSPCC in Scotland but there is Children First on 0131 446 2300

jampot · 22/06/2004 16:09

I've just googled Alloa Police Station to get the number and the second listing is Sex Offenders Notification Station...... maybe they don't have room for any more!

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:12

They are all at lunch but they assure me they are the right agency that can get this taken seriously by the police.
I'll try later this afternoon (kids' naps permitting) but it wouldn't hurt for all of us to call.tt

jampot · 22/06/2004 16:12

There's no fri$$ing answer from the Cop Shop!

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:14

We'll get this sorted between us all today, hang on in there everyone.
If I was in Scotland I would be tempted to go round with a very big stick to the ad placer, joke or no joke.

Flip · 22/06/2004 16:15

I'm disgusted and I've just sent hotmail and E-mail with a link to the add.

It's unbelievable that someone could be so obvious even if it's a joke.

I also can't believe that the police don't give a dam. Our local police would because I'd be camped outside the station!!

Flip · 22/06/2004 16:16

We need a bloke to call that number and speak to the person. A woman would be to obvious.

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:18

Don't let them take the ad down without getting this evil person's details, the police need to have those so he can be dealt with.

It is making me feel physically sick

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:18

We do don't we Flip, good idea, my Dh is out, anyone in contact with any of the blokes on MN or what about Tech1?

jampot · 22/06/2004 16:20

Have just called Child First as well and have given them details of where to find the ad, plus details of mumsnet thread in case they wanted to look here too.

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:20

Well done Jampot

I've made a note of the pervert's email address and phone number. Does anyone have access to reverse telephone directory?

KS I'll make a complaint via that link
'no concern'?????????????????????
Are we all really naiive
God what evils has the digital entertainment age plunged us into

SoupDragon · 22/06/2004 16:25

The phone number is (IMO) unlikely to belong to the person who placed the ad. It could be a "revenge" thing, the owner of the phone number may be a sex offender that people don't want around... If it's genuine then you don't want to be involved in having phoned them! I don't think it's a good idea to phone it pretending to be interested. Work on the police and/or children's protection charities instead.

Flip · 22/06/2004 16:25

That website don't want to know unless there's pictures or you're being racist.

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:26

I hear what you are saying secur but I don't think this kind of subject matter desrves the benefit of the doubt.
Sorry to be such a drama queen

jampot · 22/06/2004 16:28

What about Social Services?

suzywong · 22/06/2004 16:29

On reflection I think it may be a hoax, but it does beg the question why is the ScotsAd website allowining it?
You are right about not calling the number.

gscrym · 22/06/2004 16:30

Don't call the number. The police may already be dealing with it. It may take a few more phone calls but if this is to do with child pornography, phoning it and telling them that the police are now involved will only make them change tack. It won't stop what they're doing. It'll only force them to rethink and hide elsewhere. That won't stop what they're doing or help any children involved. Also, call lists to and from this number will be seized in any investigation and will involve any numbers on these lists being investigated. Please, all of you, be careful. I wouldn't want anything to happen to any of you because of a group of sick individuals.
As I said before, there has just been a massive operation into child pornography in central scotland involving all 8 forces. They may already be doing something about it or this ad may have been placed by someone they have arrested.
I'm off to call Alloa police station again to see if I can find out anymore

jampot · 22/06/2004 16:33

I'm speaking to Social Services atm just to log it with them - the more professionals know the better!!

Secur is right on this one. We have to let the proper authorities know about it and deal with it. The more of them that know, the better.
