Fio,

Haven't read the whole thread so might have missed something but......

Are you near Hampshire??? My dh works for a company where he can get extra bins for free.

nutcracker · 16/08/2004 11:55

I am suitably angry to Fio.

We are also now in band D and we haven't got a bin either, and our isn't even a wheelie bin, just your plain old black plastic one.

I know that they used to be provided and if the family consisted of 5 or more people then you got 2.

There are 5 of us and we haven't even got the one.

I was gonna ring up and ask about it but a neighbour informed us that she had to buy her won too.

Bloody stupid i think.

Ameriscot2004 · 16/08/2004 12:14

I just paid £49 for a second one. Having struggled with one for a household of 8, it was getting pretty ridiculous. Now I don't have to make trips to the dump with ordinary rubbish.

KateandtheGirls · 16/08/2004 12:21

Ameriscot!!!

Are you who I think you are? And in that case, are you back living in the UK? (wheelie bin discussion and all!)

If it's you you may remember me as KateandJim.

Hope you're well.

We have just had some bumpf through about a change in rubbish collection policy. From 6th sept they will only collect rubbish that is in the bin WITH THE BIN LID CLOSED FLAT! Garden waste will only be collected in special bags which cost 60p each now as well. ANyone with 6 or more people in the household can be considered for a second bin, once they have been round and checked you are recycling as much as possible, but you will have to pay for the bin yourself (atm it is £55).

Fio2 · 16/08/2004 13:54

we are paying band d aswell, why on earth cant they collect every week???? once a fortnight is going to cause loads of problems. We are classed as 'rural', we have a woolworths and a boots FFS!

sweetheart i am in kent, under the worst council in the world it seems

Live in Greenwich and have 3 bins now - 1 for garden waste, 1 for normal waste and one for reclyclables - good thing we have enough room on the drive!! - they were all free too!! (Sorry)

MeanBean · 16/08/2004 14:12

Blimey Fio2, I would have thought that only collecting rubbish once every 2 weeks is a health hazard. I'm in Kent as well, but it is still once a week where i am. No wheelie bins though - just black bags.

Fio2 · 16/08/2004 14:18

I am looking forwward to my FREE bin being delivered though, we are black bags atm meanbean and I have to walk up one flight of stairs and down one to get the rubbish out it was atking forever!

Kate,

Of course I remember you!

We've been in the UK for a year now. I think you knew about my fifth child - born April '02.

Looks like you are doing well in FLA.

KateandtheGirls · 16/08/2004 16:16

Ameriscot, I do remember that you were having a fifth. Boy or girl? Do you miss Ohio? I saw Helen (who went to dinner with us in New York) in June when I was in Devon. She lives in Cornwall now.

Sorry for the hijacked thread.
