Put it in here and see where you belong. Or your mum, or your best friend, or anybody else you know.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/01/2007 00:35

LOL! Its not even my dads original/birth surname.

JanH · 25/01/2007 00:46

My maiden name is 727th most common - in its original spelling, before my great-grandfather messed with it, it's 1010th most common - he thought it was classier the way he spelt it

Our name now is 378th so we are dead common.

mamama · 25/01/2007 00:47

eidsvold · 25/01/2007 03:45

Heavenis · 25/01/2007 07:34

Married name is 3550th.

saltireneepsandtatties · 25/01/2007 08:09

Very strange, as according to that website, Patel is the 45th most common name in the Uk and 5-25% of people in the area i come from (Dumfries and Galloway) have it as their surname, and yet it says my surname doesn't exsist.. yet on this site
here
my surname is most common in D&G.

Tutter · 25/01/2007 08:12

maiden name (scottish): 1,343rd most common
in aberdeenshire tis the 3rd most common

married name (welsh, common as muck): 29th most common

Wheelybug · 25/01/2007 08:23

noddyholder · 25/01/2007 08:26

not enough data!

2Happy · 25/01/2007 08:28

Not surprisingly married name most common in Scotland (being a Mc), but was surprised at maiden name being most common in County Durham.

IntergalacticWalrus · 25/01/2007 08:31

Mine is the 1582nd most common surname. I am pretty sure that I am the only person with my surname in Bath, but I could be wrong though.

My surname, however is 10 a penny in Ireland.

DPs surname, however, is one of the most Anglo Saxon names you cabn get, but his is lower down the list than mine, at 3 168th most common

Hallgerda · 25/01/2007 08:34

162nd most common.

MrsBadger · 25/01/2007 08:38

Mine appears to be most common in Bath and Wrexham, which is a bit weird since it sounds like it should come from a coal-mining area...

maretta · 25/01/2007 08:38

There's another website - that I also got off Mumsnet here

It tells you how many people on the electoral roll with your surname. There are 238 with mine, it doesn't show up on the other website.

beansprout · 25/01/2007 08:41

Thanks for that Maretta. There are only 60 people in the country with my surname!

Budababe · 25/01/2007 08:41

Bizarre! My married name doesn't even appear on the lists - although it is a variation of a name that does. Knew DH's lot couldn't spell!

My maiden name which is Irish is 1013rd most common in UK.

Bozza · 25/01/2007 09:07

My married name doesn't appear. But I know that it originates in Devon.

My maiden name is the 442nd most common in the GB. I was surprised at that. Mainly it is northern but with a pocket in Somerset and also very popular in Rutland.

Will look at the other sites now.
