Put it in here and see where you belong. Or your mum, or your best friend, or anybody else you know.

my maiden name didnt show up, as i expected, this is because my family are the only family left with this surname and its not originally english anyway..however, google my surname and its very common in the states(new england), due to a large branch of my family tree emigrating to the states a few hundred years ago.

CaptainDippy · 25/01/2007 16:41

My married name isn't there, but maiden name is - Apparentely there are lots in Bristol.

HappyDaddy · 25/01/2007 16:51

9,712nd most common name. I've done a bit of research and found that mine's Irish, but has a long history. It seems to have followed mercenaries and anti-English rebel warriors going back through Ireland, Wales, Norman and even Viking history. Pretty cool, I thought.

Married name is reasonably common, but my maiden name isn't listed, so I too am one of the special ones.

tassis · 25/01/2007 21:23

How fascinating - my maiden name (which I knew was unusual) is 1,110th and my married name (which I thought was a whole lot more common) isn't listed!

poppiesinaline · 25/01/2007 21:28

Well, my maiden name is quite common but my married name is very very common

common as muck me

poppiesinaline · 25/01/2007 21:29

PMSL DH thought he was more common and is quite distraught!! LOL

Whizzz · 25/01/2007 21:31

Useless - both my maiden name & married name don't exist.....but I know where they both come from anyway !

Whizzz · 25/01/2007 21:32

that's because we are very rare

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/01/2007 21:46

Prettybird - my family have a very old German surname and there are only 8 in UK!

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/01/2007 21:46

And no, it's not Schadenfreude!

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/01/2007 21:47

I checked another family name, which is Hungarian-Croatian. There are two in UK. That'll be my Aunt and Uncle then, will it?

motherinferior · 25/01/2007 21:50

There are 61 other Inferiors (well, not Inferior, YKWIM) in the UK.

Oddly enough the highest concentration of people with DP's surname appears to be in Glasgow, which isn't somewhere I'd thought of having a large Bengali community.

kitty17 · 25/01/2007 21:52

My married name is 486th and my maiden name is 951st... good site

lucy5 · 25/01/2007 22:09

My married name doesn't exsist, it's not an uncommon name. My maiden name is 183rd.

Babyramone · 26/01/2007 00:05

54th most common name in midlothian is Bowwowsweetheart
My maiden name though not common is same as midlothian town but not there.

prettybird · 26/01/2007 08:52

MrsSchadenfreude - my posting name is the clue to my name. It's fun having an unusual surname. I leanrt to spell at an early age, as "[First] name, {Seconn-name-I'll-spell-it-for-you}, as people hear it and panic!

Twiglett · 26/01/2007 08:55

don't exist .. but then I knew my maiden name was the only one in the country .. well me and my direct family

Twiglett · 26/01/2007 08:56

However over 25,000 people share my married name .. I obviously married beneath me

Hulababy · 26/01/2007 08:58

My maiden name isn't on there: Sorry, your search didn't return any results because we don't have enough data for this surname (nonexistent or less than 1300 records).

My married name is the 24th most common name in Great Britain, spread all over the UK really.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 26/01/2007 09:01

My married name isnt listed, my maiden name isnt listed and neither is my mums lol

Fillyjonk · 26/01/2007 09:05

aDad · 26/01/2007 09:09

My name does feature quite heavily but it doesn't give you the prevalence in Ireland, where it comes from.
