who's child has the most great-grandparents?

My 9 month old son has 5. 3 great-grannys and 2 great-grandads. I was thinking that this must be quite unusual. Or is it? With people living longer now I guess babies are more likely to be born with more great-grandparents.

How lovely Debi. My children have only have three grandparents and no great-grannies or grandpas. It must be wonderful when you all get together.

McDreamy · 24/01/2007 10:38

wow I thought my DC's were doing well. They have a great-grandad and a great grandmother.

Bozza · 24/01/2007 10:39

When DS was born he had two great grandads and a great grandma. Now he is 5 and has just one great grandad.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 24/01/2007 10:39

Ahh wow, thats lovely.
My children have 2 great nans but 5 is amazing. How lovely to have a big family.

MimmyPig · 24/01/2007 10:40

Not mine - they have a great grandmother and a great grandfather. They have lost 3 in the last 2 years.

Jelley · 24/01/2007 10:41

Mine have one great grandma.
A friend of mine still had 2 of her own great grandparents when she had her daughter. A combination of long lived women and early child bearing!

DebitheScot · 24/01/2007 10:41

wow tiredemma, can't believe ur kids have 8. That's impressive. I was think that the max would be 8 (4 of each) but I guess with step-great-granparents you could have even more

My 3 have 3 great grandmas & 1 step great grandpa. We are an extended family as I'm divorced and with a new partner so I guess thats not that many really

DebitheScot · 24/01/2007 10:46

we have 4 generations of males which is fairly unusual. My husbands grandfather lives in quite a rural place (west coast scotland) and the local paper were interesed in the story (not much real news) so my son, husband, his dad and his grandad got a front page story and photo in the Oban Times!

blimey
I only had one living grandparent when I was born! so my children never stood a chance. DH's all died before DD was born. I am just glad she at least has some grandparents, as I always longed for them (my grandad lived on the other side of the world and I only met him once)

AeFondKiss · 24/01/2007 10:53

one great grandad, who my dc don't know, one lovely great gran, two grans and one grandad

Chattyhan · 24/01/2007 10:59

pooka · 24/01/2007 12:38

Mine have 2 great-grandmothers. Also a great-great uncle and a great-great aunt.

tiredemma · 24/01/2007 12:42

deb- we are quite lucky to have lots! this is how it works--

me- paternal grandparents still alive ( age 85 and 90) maternal grandmother still alive ( age 85)

Dp- maternal grandparents still alive ( age 70) paternal grandparents still alive ( age 75 and 80)- stepmothers mother also still alive ( age 75)

lots of love showered on our boys!

bubblez · 24/01/2007 12:52

My dd has
3 great-grandmas (one of which she rarely sees)
2 great-gradads (neither of which she sees) 2 grandmas,
2 grandads and
1 step-grandma..

Both dp and I have lots of aunties and uncles, so she has lots of great-aunts/uncles.

And finally she has
5 uncles and 1 aunt

Needless to say she is much loved and spoilt..

bubblez · 24/01/2007 12:54

mind you I'm 25yrs old and dp is 27 and we both have young parents so it's not as impressive as it sounds. lol

Tutter · 24/01/2007 12:56

ds has a living great-grandfather

i'm 36, so that's not bad going i reckon

Nip · 24/01/2007 12:58

my DS has 4 Grand Parents, 5 Great Grand Parents and 1 Great Great Grand Mother!!

Azure · 24/01/2007 13:01

I also only had one grandparent when I was born, and she died over 15 years ago. My DC have 3 grandparents, but my MIL alone is 82!

saltireneepsandtatties · 24/01/2007 13:05

MrsJc, I am like you, i only had one Grandparent alive when i was growing up. However, my DS have
1 great granny (old witch)
2 Step- great grannies
3 step great grandads - DH's grandad, his step dads dad, and his gran's DH, whom she hasn't lived with for 15 years but tehy never got divorced, but who isn't DH's grandad. Doea that make sense, cos i'm copnfusing myself here
Also 3 grandmothers and 3 grandfathers
1 Great, great aunt, (99yrs old)
4 great aunts (including one a year younger than DH)
1 great uncle

podglet · 24/01/2007 13:43
