who's child has the most great-grandparents?

My 9 month old son has 5. 3 great-grannys and 2 great-grandads. I was thinking that this must be quite unusual. Or is it? With people living longer now I guess babies are more likely to be born with more great-grandparents.

My children have 1 great granddad on my side of the family and 2 geratgrandmothers, one step greatgrandmother and one great granfather on dh's side. Dh'd father's mother will be 100 this year, (sadly her husdand died in his early 40's when dh's father was only 14).

Wow, I'm impressed by all the G-grandparents! Ds1 had one G-granny and one G-grandpa when he was born. By the time ds2 was born G-granny had died and G-granpa died when ds was 4mths old. My children have two grannies now, aged 87 and 79. Also four uncles and two aunts and a sundry number of cousins etc.

My paternal grandparents died 40+yrs before I was born and my maternal granny when I was four. My grandpa was around until I was 25. My parents were both only children so no aunts/uncles/cousins for me.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next generation. If the children of women having their first babies in their 40's today also delay childbirth until they are 40-ish then some people won't be grandparents until well into their 80's.

Hulababy · 24/01/2007 21:18

Oh, rest of family:

5 great grandoarents
4 grandparents
2 aunties
2 uncles
1 cousin
and about 10+ great aunties and 10+ great uncles (maybe more) plus extra cousins vai them

tiredemma · 25/01/2007 08:10

gosh, my rest of family is huuuge-
my maternal granny had 14 children ( and also adopted 3 more)- so that side of the family is massive, I have literally tons of cousins.

eidsvold · 25/01/2007 08:17

2 great grandmas
1 great great aunt and uncle - see regularly
2 grandmas, 2 grandads and a couple of step grandmas

7 great aunts - 1 of whom they are especially close to - often looks after them

8 great uncles

but in immediate family - 4 half/step aunts, 2 step uncles

3 aunts, 3 uncles and two cousins.

unfortunately don't see english side of the family now we live in Aus

IntergalacticWalrus · 25/01/2007 08:42

Our children don;t have any family left on DPs side, as he is an only child and his parents both died when he was young

On my side, however, the DSs have both grandparents, a great grandma and about 100 different great aunts, great uncles and cousins. I'm an only child too though, so the children have no offical aunts or uncles

moondog · 25/01/2007 08:43

Whose
Who's is a contraction of 'who is'.

As you were ladies.

DebitheScot · 25/01/2007 11:11

oops, very about the spelling/grammatical error. Sorry about that.

I'd forgotten about great0great-aunts and uncles. Am I right in thinking they are the brothers and sisters of the great-granparents? If they are then ds has at least 1 of each but don't know exactly how many.
He also has 6 great aunts and 6 great uncles but only 1 auntie and 1 uncles. Lots and lots of first cousins once removed (or second cousins, can't remember what my cousins are to ds) No cousins though, he's the first granchild of both sides of family so is very spoiled.

Merlin · 25/01/2007 20:53

My DS's have just one Great Grandma ................... but she will be 100 in August

Londoner11 · 28/01/2018 14:06

I had none - last died a few months before I was born. My parents never met any of their's either. Did have a great - great auntie- think all other great- great aunts and uncles died before I was.

Only have one great uncle left and possibly one great aunt. One or two of there spouses might be alive.
On my Mum's side one cousin never got to meet my nan and is grandparent-less at 10, his younger half-brother never got to met my nan or grandad.
