Were you bullied at school?

I was, for being english in a scottish school, for being vegetarian, for not having the right clothes (in fact when i did wear the right clothes I had them ripped off me to prove they were fakes, they werent) for going out with someone that everyone else fancied but he wanted me, so I got my head kicked in...the list goes on...were you and what for?

I was bullied for being tall and thin, but it was verbal rather than physical. Only lasted for about a month but I still have a complex about my legs now.

I was bullied mercilessly. Not too sure why - I think is was because the bullies were the ones who were different :

Bully A - had a Mum who basically was a hooker - she ran a night club which was particularly seedy - and I just came from a normal loving family
Bully B - was a touch on the heavy side ( OK she was fat ) and in the end ( 20 years later ) came out - so she was obviously wrestling with her own issues.

God girls can be horrid.

I'm watching my DD go through it ...

Though interestingly - she had a bully in her class ( who basically went through the class ) the school dealt with it very badly - for 5 years and eventually the class took it into their own hands to give the bully a taste of her own medicine - she ended up leaving. Though I cannot condone that behaviour - there's something to be said for girl power !!

I was bullied by the bully gang I'd once been a part of and decided I didn't want to be part of anymore. But I stood up to them and they realised I wasn't as soft as they were for going around in a gang and eventually left me alone. I then went the other way and helped other people who they were bullying.

I wasn't very proud of myself for being a bully but it felt good to think for myself and not be afraid to be different. I left the in crowd to befriend the "freaks and Geeks" as they called them and they were the best friends I could have and I'm still in contact with most of them now.

I wasn't really. I was just very quiet and just hung around with my own small group of friends. My brother was bullied quite horribly throughout his education. He has a hare lip and cleft palette and even his so called friends thought it was okay to use it as a form of joke I used to get very cross and get into trouble for sticking up for him when younger.

I was bullied a lot at school. Had to change schools when I was 8 and my mum died. Horrible time anyway as Dad couldn't stand living in the house any more so we moved to a different area and different school. Very shy anyway which didn't help. Bullying got better at secondary school and only really stopped when I was about 15 and turned into a bit of a rebel. Luckily my ds who's 15 now has never been bullied and always had loads of friends. Hopefully dd (nearly one) wll be the same

I was bullied for "thinking I was clever" ie I used to get decent grades at school.
I also wore the "wrong" clothes too.

Still have hang ups about some of this stuff and my dread is watching a child of mine be bullied as I don't think I could not go and see the child/parents and "sort it aht!"

I was bullied terribly physically abused by other kids in gangs, when I was alone, teachers also. It was from about 6 yrs old till late teens. Im still not sure why I was a tiny girl? , very quiet?, a little different?, my religion? ,I wore national health glasses and looked geeky? ,artistic and not very academic?, my dad had a a horrible big mustard mercedes at the time and I was bullied for being the spoilt little rich girl(which I wasnt AT ALL)?. I had to BEG my parents to turn up to collect me in the old car I was soooo mortified when that big nasty yellow thing turned up at the gates.

It even happened to me several years later with 2 different male bosses in 2 diff jobs. The 1st one got told by me were he could go and it stopped there. Im just getting through it all now at 31, Ive also started another thread in parenting on how to help our kids through it all.

I was never bullied but as many kids experience, there was a bit of being 'picked on' since i did quite well at school.

didn't really socialise with people from school as I was always at dancing/rehearsals on an evening/weekends or trying to fit in homework!

However, if my dad hadn't been the local football team managers that most of the lads in my year group were desperate to impress then it might have been a different story

Like you magnum I had to change schools several times for it , as the headmaster/mistresses just wouldnt ackowlegde it was happening and blamed my behaviour for it????????

I was bullied throught second year school life about my hieght, was the worst times of my life.

My teenager daughter has also been bullied all through secondary school for being tall and pretty. Amazingly the bullies always went for her hair, because it is long and blonde. She has now left and is taking gcse's. Im so glad her school days are over

For being snooty. I wasn't, but we moved from London to a small town in Lancashire and the kids were none to pleased with my accent. Needless to say I lost it pronto and sounded like a real Lancashire Lass. A year later, we moved back to London, where I was bullied again for "sounding like an alien". Quickly lost the accent again. Aren't kids adaptable.

I was never bullied at school(I think because I learnt about sarcasm before most kids). A friend of mine who was bullied says her son is now suffering horribly at school and she thinks that if you were bullied your children will be - as if it rubs off or is reflected in basic confidence levels. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? (my ds is only 5 months, a bit young for being bullied though he does manage to bully me and dh quite a lot).

yes because i was a easy target in there minds strangly enough it stopped all of a sudden my ec must have told them what i threatend to do to him if he ever rose a hand to me which he tried only once
and is it just me or does verbal bullying hurt more than physical

Because of being bullied I would actually prefer not to HAVE to send my children to school, all this nonsense about sending parents to prison...well im sure as hell if id have thought my mum would get in trouble for me having a few days off when I couldnt bear the thought of going in then the stress might have pushed me over the edge. The stress of the bullying and feeling pressurised to go in everyday. Shudder at the thought.
My dd is very quiet at school and sticks out like a sore thumb to me, as the other children are all wildly confident. My 3 year old is loud and confident, but very very sensitive to other peoples feelings, so she might get picked on for crying when someone else is being picked on!
I could have done without the bullying, but its a good experience to have gone through as at least I will have 100% sympathy and support for my girls should it ever arise.
That sounds ridiculus, but I know what I mean!

I wasn't hit bullied i just got verbally bullied because i didn't dress like everyone else, i was really into heavy metal and everyone else wasn't. And because i was quite shy and i get a red face and people used to pick on me for that.

I hated my school days and i would never wish them back at all.
People can be soo cruel.

like you charliecat i was bullied for being english but was in a welsh school, was told at 8 by one little darling to F off home you silly english B*$£%!! all through secondary school, was bullied for one reason or another. one time i was accused of stuffing my bra, unfourtunealty my boobs did appear overnight and were large!!

i think the worst betrail though has to have been when my friend who all through primary and secondary school had stood by me when i was bullied turned on me in the sixth form.

why was i bullied don't know!!easy target i guess, but i have to say oen thing that did keep me going was the support of my few friends and family and also that i they were bullying me then some poor sod who couldn't take it and din't have the support i did was being let off for the day.

in fact i got bullied at uni to by a girl who hated the fact that my parents weren't divorced!! like it was my fault
