Anonymity and all that - why not do a member profile?

If you have so far (like me) chosen not to do a member profile, why not?

I enjoy the feeling of anonymity on MN, and tend to be a lot more open on here than in RL, and chat about things that I wouldn't talk about to friends in RL.

Am I alone in my hesitancy on this?

acnebride is the ultimate thread killer and already thinks she sounds phenomenally bumptious on most threads so would not dare do a profile. she is a retired figure skater, failed boxer and now ekes out a living being paid by Mother Ease to write offensive slogans on packets of Huggies in supermarkets.

Suzywong - I've often thought you sounded like a Derek It's nice to have a real man on the site.

Toots · 28/05/2004 08:53

Thank you for your post KS

I haven't done mine either ... I like the anonymity of MN ... although I know some MNers personally now and my sister has just joined and she knows who I am. There a few people out there that I'd rather they didn't know who Ghosty is ... if they are Mners that is ...
Oh ... and I am not that interesting ...

juniper68 · 28/05/2004 09:15

ROFLMAO @ the alternatives

juniper is really called Doris, plays the church organ, desperately needs electrolosis on her facial hair and smells of mothballs

littlemissbossy · 28/05/2004 09:17

I'm with soupdragon on this one because I can't be ar$ed either

dinny · 28/05/2004 09:27

No way would I be tempted - like to be anonymous! Isn't that the point?

crystaltips · 28/05/2004 09:28

I think that it has already been done on various other threads though NOT with a proper title.
I didn't post as I didn't want to bore anyone any further !!

I would spend far too long trying to think what to say - I'm not particularly spontaneous or witty...

toots, you have begun something here. Love the alternatives! Oh heck how can I join in now? Like tinker, I am not a joiner by nature.

tigermoth's great fear is that the parents form her sons' school discover her here.

papillon · 29/05/2004 09:06

Whilst it is nice knowing alittle about people it also takes away the mystery
Alot of us tend to let slip little bits about our lives anyway

SoupDragon · 29/05/2004 09:06

Soupdragon is tall thin gorgeous former model. She is married to a famous rock star and they have 2 sons called Hercules and Tarzan. She enjoys travelling the world, meeting people and helping children. Quite how she finds time to post on Mumsnet with her never ending routine of manicures, beauty treatments and hair appointments is a mystery.

Davros · 29/05/2004 11:39

Just haven't got round to it. I DO like the anonimity but would keep profle general anyway, would never tell the wholeof MN my real name. Although I don't hesitate to email direct any MNers who I make a connection with or to meet up if local.
I'm also a bit busy at the moment presenting Big Brother...

Kayleigh · 29/05/2004 12:38

Davros, I knew you reminded me of someone when we met. Just couldn't put my finger on it. Must have been the fact you didn't screech at me that stopped me guessing

Demented · 29/05/2004 13:43

I can't think of anything earth shattering to say in my profile. Probably what I would say would give away too much personal detail, names of my children, DH etc, would bore you all to tears and if there is someone out there who knows me it would totally blow my cover. So no I'm not in any huge rush to do one.

Tortington · 29/05/2004 17:09

i think the concept itself is arsey and if not careful could turn into a keep up with the jones'.

"non-sequiturs" does that mean you havent got those things that cut roses?

3GirlsMum · 29/05/2004 20:35

To be honest I didnt know you could do one till I saw this thread!

islandgirl · 30/05/2004 19:52

roisin, I am with you all the way. I can be really open on here (as you know!!!) and no one judges you. Sometimes it is easier to share things with 'strangers' than people close to you. I think MN is fantattic, but I'd never tell by best friend my nickname!

Cam · 31/05/2004 18:07

Does Alternative Member Profile mean that you can get everyone to forget everything they already know about you and re-invent yourself as a cool, groovy young person?

prufrock · 31/05/2004 19:45

Oh but you are Cam, you are
