by best I mean friendly and not outrageously expensive, with local schools not awful (though a bit below average is fine). pref near somewhere where we might rent an office.

Have spoke to DH about your budget. In main Sheffield you may be struggling to get 4 bed for £160K to be honest, and may need to look further afield a bit.

We have bought and sold with Blundells a couple fo times now and they have been very good. Our experience with Saxton Mee wasn't as positive. And do bear in mind that in is usually quite hard to get properties beloew asking price in Sheffield - if anything, they have generally gone for mor. Even Location Location found that out in the end!

UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 21:00

just to echo what hulbaby says - the Sheffield housing market is crazy and you generally can't get away with anything under the asking price Things tend to go for 10-20% above. if you make an asking-price offer, chances are they'll just say "ta very much" and sit tight in anticipation of another bid.

Hulababy · 10/01/2007 21:05

Did you see Location Location when it was here? It was funny as they really did think they'd manage to get the properties for less than asking price! Unsuprisingly they didn't manage it.

UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 21:11

I saw one a few years ago where ther people were after a house by the stream in Totley. Have they done another since? On that one they downplayed the fact that the couple didn't actually get the house! I think it was just said in a voice-over at the end.

We had some friends who'd been out of the country for 5 years and came back to Sheffield to buy - they WOULD NOT believe us when we told them about the system. They made all the right noises but you could TELL they thought they knew better and that their budget would get them the property they wanted. One by one their desirable locations fell by the wayside - Crosspool, Broomhill, Oughtibridge, Bradfield - they finally got a terrace in Hillsborough. Decent enough but maybe not quite what they'd had in mind!

I saw the one around 2003/4, think it was a Relocation one. A couple bought an apartment above the old Glossop baths in the city - I could see it from my apartment We saw them filming in the coffee shop at West One. They did buy it, but not below asking price. Think they are still there - sometimes see them in town.

Hi I am looking for a house in Sheffield. I have done a little bit of research however still can't make my mind about the good areas. I am looking for 3bed- house in a nice area. Please help!! Don't want totally isolated rural life, rather have a bit of a city touch but safe place to live. Have a budget of arround 120k -130k. Cheers :)

Just seen this is a very old thread but it reminded me of my student days in Sheffield.

I hope Attercliffe and Neeps End are much nicer, aces to live than the deprived areas they were.
Nether edge seemed quite nice in the 70 s. is it like that now. I also lived on Meadowhead right opposite the park. That was a nice area but the traffic was so noisy it being the main chesterfield road.

I loved Sheffield and it people. Must go back someday.
Endcliffe also seemed nice and I had frends in Crookes and Walkley. I remember going for a walk in Abbeydale woods when it was snowing with my friend, mad days.

I also lived in Totley. That was nice as well. Probably ridiculously expensive now.
