I've had friends round and everyone really dug deep today and spilt some stuff. Luckily not the tea I gave them though seeing as I had just steamed the floor.
So I'm all head-squirly now. Which is A Real Thing. I also released the swear at them, and it was a bit of a relief to not have to watch my mouth.

No idea mouse lots of roasts and stews. Don't know exactly what cuts we're expecting either, which would help with meal planning.

I haven't done the freezer yet, or the chickens At least I've got one load on the line and another in the machine.

norah no, not at all, I just thought she was generally annoying. Esp her voice. And the sanctimonious stuff she said with it. Though that was the writers' fault, not hers I guess.

I kind of hate it when period dramas do out-of-historical-context "ishoos", and make someone who is supposedly living in the past start espousing 21st century liberal views on womens / gay rights / racism / etc.

I know there have been female vanguards of feminism throughout history but I suspect pretty blonde ninons salon is not a massively accurate depiction of this.

And if I want feminism 101, Ill watch some shite girl-power type programme for daft teenagers on bbc3. I wont obvs

Didn't someone reckon Ninon was partly based on Ninon de l'Enclos who would have been 11 at the time filming was set.

I have no idea why she grated on me - her character seemed a bit smug /superior/condescending. Dunno. We ought to have liked her from a feminist viewpoint. But as Madame says, we don't watch TM for feminism 101

we have Connie doing the same as well, thinking on it..I mean she's a dull sad twat in most of series 2 but she does have her moments, particularly when she tells dog how it's a man's world etc. so maybe in the sort of programme the musketeers is, I don't mind it.
I thought it was good to have it there for the kids who might be watching, (Wasn't it originally an 8pm show that might have been watched by kids, like merlin etc?) in fact dd really likes ninon. And dog.

I'm with madame on Ninon, found the voice & delivery a bit annoying and think shoving 20/21 C values in period dramas is very hard to get right. It felt like a male view of such a woman too, a bit like the 'sexed up' bits of s2 felt like a more male view of sexiness. I thought Connie's speech was much better except for the 'woman in a man's world' sentence, which again was a bit modern.

I liked Emilie, I thought she really showed strength of character at the end. Fab hair too.

I don't think the MN feminist boards regulars would mind us too much - we like the strong female characters, called Aramis a (very pretty) dick for his treatment of Marge and our porn is written (no-one exploited in the production) from a female point of view for women. I agree with a lot on those boards, I'm just far too busy perving on here to post

I liked emilie too - but not marge or ninon. Agree with fancy - think she was a bit of a man's view of what a woman would think a strong woman was or something. Tbh Id much rather just see a female character in a show like that kicking ass and being smart and fabulous a la milady and mme bonnaire.
