URGENT sodding fancy dress for DH & me

MrsBadger · 07/12/2006 22:37

tomorrow is my work Christmas party

it's fancy dress themed as Cartoon Characters

We'd planned to go as Popeye and Olive Oyl

DH has just tried his outfit on
(white hat and red collar thing over navy shirt)

he looks as camp as a row of tents

very 'hello sailor!'

he is not happy

WTF can we go as at 24h notice?!

Captain Hook and Tinkerbell?

myrrhthamoo · 07/12/2006 22:38

What...he thought he was going to look sartorially elegant as Popeye ?

tamum · 07/12/2006 22:38

Spongebob and Patrick?

myrrhthamoo · 07/12/2006 22:39

How about you go as Popeye and he goes as Olive Oyl?

Or he could wear his outft and go as a member of the Pet Shop Boys?

maryhadaharpsichordyeahlord · 07/12/2006 22:39

by the way, you can buy Scooby doo outfits from A Local Toy Shop, if he fancies being Shaggy (or Scooby and you can be Daphne.
(I picture you as Daphne, actually)

spykid · 07/12/2006 22:39

Dennis the menace and Minnie the minx.

Get some leaves and go as Adam and Eve? May be a bit nippy.

MrsBadger · 07/12/2006 22:41

all variations on the fairy theme have been bagged by the squeaky PhD students

not the time or the place for drag

he is pissed off and sulking and claims it's my fault

am considering Captain Pugwash (cheapo pirate hat) and Roger the cabin boy (me in Popeye rig)

Blues Brothers - if you've got suits, just need hats and sunglasses.

myrrhthamoo · 07/12/2006 22:44

I missed the cartoon characters bit completely.

JackieNoHoHo · 07/12/2006 22:44

Could he go as Bluto? Then you could still be OO.

realjolly · 07/12/2006 22:45

hm...give him a tin saying spinach on it and a piple, and I am sure, no matter how camp he looks he will feel like popeye...oh and give him some pretend big muscles, eh ;)
Surely you are meant to look daft in fancy dress!
If he will not...hmmmmmmmmm

myrrhthamoo · 07/12/2006 22:45

South Park

Just wear anoraks.

MrsBadger · 07/12/2006 22:45

adam and eve?

tis cartoon characters!

he has suggested Rocky and Bullwinkle

(NB harpsi I love your name - we have a couple of appalachian / bluegrass arragements this year and it's hilarious hearing our uptight english choir do them...)

I am seriously impressed by marthamoo's generous interpretation of "cartoon characters". You couldn't get some yellow facepaint and go as the Simpsons, could you? Would that be blokey enough for him?

maryhadaharpsichordyeahlord · 07/12/2006 22:48

why thank you

Shrek and Princess Fiona
Charlie and Lola
oh hold on! the Wonder Pets!
where the F do you work, btw, if they make you dress up as CARTOON CHARACTERS? madness, sheer madness

myrrhthamoo · 07/12/2006 22:53

Well, just because you lot are not au fait with the avant garde early work of the Russian cartoonist Ivan Ivansviminovanichivimovich - Adam and Eve: The Early Years; The Blues Brothers: in shades of Pink (subtitled) ...that's not my fault.

maryhadaharpsichordyeahlord · 07/12/2006 22:58

it's GOT to be scooby doo characters, surely?
Fred and Diane = most dignified imho

tamum · 07/12/2006 23:00
realjolly · 07/12/2006 23:03

Fred and ???Diane????
anyway...Tarzan and Jane?

MrsBadger · 07/12/2006 23:10

scooby doo already bagged unfortunately

am liking Dennis / Minnie...
