hudyer I swear they are either wearing tap shoes or hob nailed boots the noise they make. I hope that the show is good when they finish practicing Grin

hudyerwheesht · 06/10/2015 12:21

Grin patrician

They can't be louder than seagulls on the roof of a caravan. Every time I've been in one its been like small children have been walking around above our heads.

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 06/10/2015 13:33

No not quite that loud as it isn't a tin roof thankfully.

My better half asked me to take a look at one of our CCTV cameras last night "as we've got a friend". I was expecting it to be the foxes that have come back to the street but said friend had far too many legs and has built a web right over the camera! Was happily repairing the web in the rain. They like the warmth from the infra red lights as you can see them almost sunbathing on them.

FattyNinjaOwl · 06/10/2015 17:29

This is my 21 month old DDs hand about to pick up the spider that was on our fire place. (The other black bits are bits of mud from her shoes that she decided to bang on there, then she threw the shoes and went to attack Mr spider)

eeek! That beetle can jump! My son got some great wildlife shots. I'll put them up when I get home from work.

At the moment our lives are upside down because we've lost our adorable labrador labrapig . We've checked all his regular haunts and he's not in any of them. Our cleaning lady said he got out when the back gate was opened for a delivery and took off running. I can only hope he's gone after a bitch on heat and not that someone's taken him. Big smelly dogs are not very often stolen, there's loads of strays and people's pets all over our small town. No one bothers them, but he is a labrador so there is a slight concern. Also it's his first birthday on the 22nd Sad Sad Sad and I want him home! I can only hope that if someone has taken him he chews all their shoes, pulls all the washing off the line and howls all night, so they release him. He is a big baby and sleeps on his mat in my sons bedroom. He will cry tonight if he's not home. Sorry to divert but I'm really Sad. To make matters worse our little chihuahua keeps going outside and howling for him. Heart break city here at the moment. Someone please cheer me up with some funny wildlife stories!!

tomatodizzy · 06/10/2015 19:50

Shit! Fatty, she's starting young. She'll have pet spiders before you know it and then what'll you do?

FattyNinjaOwl · 06/10/2015 20:06

tomato I will sit in a corner rocking and crying.
She's not a "girl" at all. None of the stereotypes can be applied to my demon.

Shit about your pup Sad hope he's home soon

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 06/10/2015 21:16

Oh tomato that's so shit. Hopefully he is playing with some of the non dangerous wildlife and will turn up in the morning.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2015 01:30

So sorry Tomato - hope he comes home safe and sound very soon :(

DS2 is getting a bit better with the "bugs" (all small wildlife) - less of the ear-splitting screaming now, but still stands and points until you come and do something about it - today's effort was a very odd looking thing just outside the front door. Turns out it was already dead, as I discovered when I sprayed it with Mortein (didn't want to get too close before just in case it moved/jumped/flew). Still don't know what it is, and still not getting close enough to find out! I don't mind spiders, but beetle/wasp/other things really freak me out, even when dead.

hudyerwheesht · 07/10/2015 06:17

Aww, tomato how awful for you, hope he turns up soon.

Jees, fatty, I thought that little black speck on the right was the spider she was going for - then I opened the picture.
Shock

tomatodizzy · 07/10/2015 12:48

He didn't come home last night Sad. Three or four people saw him eating rubbish (sounds about right) outside a school that's about a mile from our house, now I'm worried because I often walk him up to meet my oldest DS from school (different school), highschool finishes at 11.30am here and he is quite used to wiggling his bum and getting lots of affection from teenagers. If he was by the school at kick out time he would have bounded off with the first kid that petted him. DH was out most of yesterday and went out again last night looking. The problem is when we call him about 20 dogs start barking. We've also put leaflets up and will announce him on the radio with a reward bloody dog. Luckily it's a small town and there are no dangers from dog baiting or anything worrying like that. My SIL's Yorkie went missing for three days and came back via the grapevine. Yorkies are far more desirable than a big trash eating labrador that needed a bath three weeks ago and smells like horse shit.

I will post some of our less dangerous wildlife. Thumbs my 3 year old does that too he calls everything that crawls ranha which is spider (aranha) or bee if it flies. He hops from foot to foot while pointing. Last time we were in the UK, some kids were poking about with ants in a playground, my then 5 year old DS was rigid with shock and staring at them like they were crazy. Amazing how fast children learn to survive in the kingdom of freaky beasts isn't it?

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/10/2015 12:52

Eew eew what the fuck is this?!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2015 13:21

That, Fatty, looks like a bent earwig. More details pelase?

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/10/2015 13:24

I thought it was an earwig. I discovered it on the living room floor. It came from nowhere! It must have been injured though as it could only wriggle in a circle. DD kissed it Shock she's gross. I picked it up in loo roll and flushed it down the bog.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2015 13:38

Kissed it?!?! Wtf was she thinking?? It could have pincered onto her lips! Shock

Best thing, flushing it. I'd like to hope it drowns. But it might not. I'm fairly sure earwigs have some use, but not in the house.

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/10/2015 13:40

I've no fucking idea what she was thinking, I went to get loo roll, she kissed it...
She's aa typical toddler and has absolutely zero common sense.

hudyerwheesht · 07/10/2015 13:45

Fatty I think your biggest problem is your creature-loving DC! See a spider? Grab it? Bent earwig - give it a kiss!

Grin
hudyerwheesht · 07/10/2015 13:51

tomato - it sounds like you're doing everything you can, hopefully someone will have come across him if he is friendly like that. Plus in a small town you stand a good chance of someone finding and returning him. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/10/2015 13:57

Ffs, DD is going to be like Bess isnt she? Living in a house full of creatures and saying "its all right they won't hurt you much )

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2015 14:11

Seems that way, Fatty.

Tomato hope he turns up soon, you're right, most people would quite happily return an all-devouring labrador, I would have thought! Grin

That's brilliant. Poor spider.

Tomato dog is home!! Wine

Dh found him yesterday, we had reports about his general where-abouts. We must have gone over 100's of miles of the same streets looking for him. We had several reports from the evening he went missing. I think someone took him on that evening and released him when either he pissed them off, or they heard we were looking and thought we might be on to them (phone call put us onto that theory). He needed a bath and I washed him with anti flea and tick shampoo....he had about 50 ticks!! Did you know they are related to spiders?

Here's a tree frog on the window sill and an Albino lizard that lives in the bathroom. Enjoy!

And on a side note. We have an insect here that sounds like someone trying to tune a radio. They get louder and louder and sometimes they explode. Just why? I think they are a type of cicada. I'll try and find a link to their noise, it is the strangest thing to sit out under the stars in the middle of nowhere and have the sound of a 100 badly tuned radios in the background.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/10/2015 13:18

Sounds like a cicada sort of noise, yes. We have them. They go crazy. They also pee on you if you walk under a tree with lots of them in. ShockGrin

I like your lizard - I have 2 lizards in the house (knowingly) - a pygmy bearded dragon (in DS1's room) and a thicktailed gecko (next to where I sit in the evening). We also have innumerable tiny skinks in the garden and under the house, sometimes in it, and at least one blue tongue lizard in the garden.

I like your treefrog too - our local ones are much greener than that.

We found a great cicada up in the nearby mountains one year - here's a pic of it.
