Help me get rid of my net curtains!!!!!

Need your help people, recently moved house and want to do away with the nets! I've got large bay windows at the front, up and down.

What do you have on your windows?

e.g. do I have voile instead of nets, with curtains (and should they be on a pole, tab top or track?)
or, just a venetian or roman blind, or would you have a curtain as well?

Eeek, I have no style, need some HEEEELLLLLP! and too embarrassed to admit who I really am!

I have voil as nets and light coloured curtains over the top. Brought the voil from Argos - it is supposed to be curtains, but I used as sort of nets. Hang them like nets using a rod on the inside of the window. Then the cutains are hung using a pole.

We used to have blinds - but when they were up people looked in my lounge. Hope this makes sense!!

Lounge : I have flat pannelled cotton voiles on each window, with curtains.
Bedroom: cream light block roller blinds and gauzy organza swags , draping over the floor.

I like wooden venetions with curtains , but its quite a classic look.

You can get gauzy roller blinds so theres still some transparency & I would have them with curtains. NOt keen on tab top voiles especially with curtains as it can look very messy with too much going on.

We have bay windows (top and bottom) and we go bare (curtains, but no nets) - people get bored snooping eventually and it lets all the light in.

You mean ... go NAKED! Oooh, don't think I could do it,would feel like an animal at the zoo being peered at all the time.

Like the suggestions so far - any more?

And need to do this on the cheap too!

We had nets downstairs and went BARE (well, proper curtains for nighttime) upstairs. Suited us... neighbours across the road had nets and were elderly, poor eye-sight, so reckon they couldn't see anything, anyway.

Actually, I'd like to add the wooden venetians as suggested by Melsy. Someone else in our road has this "look" and its lovely. Trouble is they have to be custom made to our windows so must save some pennies. In the meantime, will continue to romp unashamedly. Honestly, people don't bother anymore.

Got the same problem in house we're moving to in 2 weeks. We're going to go bare - definitely - let them watch me swigging gin - I don't care!!

Someone suggested using that etching spray to use on the bottom half of the bay window, not a bad idea, but then you can't have a good nose out....

ive got voile tie blinds and curtains...did have bamboo blinds but i got fed up of them. Theyre very see-thru though...think all the neighbours may have seen my bits at some time or other.

I've got this problem, we've just decorated the two front rooms,our bedroom and the front room.
I hate nets and have never had them, but DH hates people looking in as they pass.I don't mind as I like to look out,so have decided on 3 Roman blinds(either side and middle of bay), I thought DH could put one or other of them down/half down, to shield himself(or the TV on sunny days).
I've decided on no curtains, as when we had new UPVC windows, we had the wood suround replaced on the inside,it's beautifuly molded so I would like to make a bit of a feature of it.

We have no nets, muslin, voile or blinds. We do have curtains though, on tracks in the bay as it is easier to fit them. Are they square bays or round? This will limit your choice a bit as getting a pole to fit a round bay could be tricky and expensive. I made a pole to fit our old house's square bay out of copper pipe and elbow joints which I spray painted. worked really well, looked great and was dead cheap.

I did feel rather naked at first but i'm used to no nets now and I don't think I'd go back to having them.

why dont you get the glasss film fitted to the lower half of the windows, it doesnt reduce the light and looks like your glass has been sandblasted. they can even do tiny patterns on it or one large dot/square , check out

brume.co.uk

its clean and you dont have to dust like with blinds etc

I think you've solved my net problem as well.
It sounded a bit tacky at first, but having seen the site, I was quite impressed, some very attractive designs.
All I've got to do now, is convince DH that it's a good idea, to put "sticky backed plastic", on the windows.

As we have nosey neighbours and our front windows (not bay but v. big) are only 3 feet from the pavement, we've got voiles hung on wire runners like nets, plus curtains. Back patio windows have just curtains so its nice and light.

We've got wooden venetians (left by the previous owners), I'm not so keen to keep them, I would like to get nice heavy curtains for night time and in the day pull them back to let loads of natural light through.

Haven't got a net or blind (other than a Velux one on DS1 bedroom window) in the house.

Have curtains though - can't bear to have "open" windows at night, incase someone's peering through

Fortunately, we're set back from the road a bit, plus we have a huge tree and lots of tall shrubs etc at the front, so no-one can see in from the road. At the back, we only have a bungalow behind so again no-one peering in.

We have a downstairs bay - its built out from the house with its own roof (IYSWIM)and the UPVC windows go right up to ceiling so had a nightmare getting special tracking fitted to the ceiling in the bay for the curtains.

But to answer the point - we are naked. Do have blinds - bamboo roller in kitchen, Roman in en-suite and wooden Venetian in "office" - but instead of curtains.

But if you are naked upstairs, doesn't this mean you have to keep the curtains closed until you decide to get dressed, keeping the lights on?

I was wondering about the wooden venetians, but I'm guessing they block the light quite a bit?

Don't think the "sticky backed plastic" would work on my windows, they are too big with no central border,like nice sashes have.

Still undecided ...!

We were only naked for about two days after we moved here - we are straight onto the street and it was like living in a goldfish bowl. People are very unsubtle - they gawp in, not just glance sideways. We have a plain voile blind that did pull up on a cord til ds2 yanked the string off it!

One good thing about being naked is that you are ever so nice to your kids - you feel like you have an audience all the time

We've got wooden venetians and yes, they do block the light quite a bit. So we usually leave the middle one down and the 2 to the left and right up to let some light in.
