Need your help people, recently moved house and want to do away with the nets! I've got large bay windows at the front, up and down.

What do you have on your windows?

e.g. do I have voile instead of nets, with curtains (and should they be on a pole, tab top or track?)
or, just a venetian or roman blind, or would you have a curtain as well?

Eeek, I have no style, need some HEEEELLLLLP! and too embarrassed to admit who I really am!

I'm in the process of adding on an ensuite bathroom to the bedroom - one major benefit in my view is being able to go in there to get changed! I do have voile at the moment but don't really like it and may dump it if the ensuite thing works! DD's room also looks out on to the street (we live in a bungalow with both bedrooms at the front) and I've left hers naked.

Nope - walk about completely in the "buff" whilst upstairs - but can only do this as there are NO houses opposite our bedroom window.

Thinking about it, absolutely no-one in our street has nets at all! We must be "net snobs" in our street

tatcity · 01/05/2004 23:39

I walk around in the buff anyway - and about 10 houses look into our bedroom! I think I'm a naturist at heart! (only in the privacy of my own home 'though you understand)

buzzybee - ensuite bathroom sounds good. Is it a really messy job? We need one in our house we're moving to soon as there's no bathroom upstairs. Worried about the chaos though!

Don't know if anyone's suggested this (too lazy to read whole thread!) but have you looked at American shutters? Different to wooden venetians, quite fashionable but classic too and can come in all sorts of colours and finishes. Quite expensive though but look good from inside and outside. I think we used ShutterShop some years ago, usualy advertise in the bag of mags or try Google.

Naked but for curtains or blinds here too, but we are all on one level, and have a 7 foot hedge circling us. Plus no windows directly overlooking.

KateandtheGirls · 02/05/2004 14:42

Davros, do you mean something like this?

plantation shutters

They're popular here in Florida, but quite pricey I believe.

tamum · 02/05/2004 15:05

Naked and overlooked here. However, we have original shutters so that helps. I agree with Beety, you just get so much more light in without nets. I think voile can look quite nice though

Davros · 02/05/2004 15:41

KATG, yes that's exactly what I mean. Bet they're cheaper in the US though

Codswallop · 03/05/2004 07:47

I have some up stairs to my horror as a re very overlooked and I hate haviong curtains drawn int he day

twitcher · 03/05/2004 11:46

"Over my dead body will I be naked in this house!!" - DPs hissy fit when I suggested doing away with the nets and just having curtains, so that idea is probably out of the window (boom boom!).

His argument is people will be able to see our stuff and we might as well send an invitation to the neighbourhood burglars (can't see why they would be interested in our 15 year old dirty beige suite mesself).

Like the plantation shutters!! Bit pricey...

The argument continues!
