what 'trends' really (maybe unreasonably) make your teeth itch?

Some things really piss me off. Those wall stickers 'live, laugh, love' and other shitty phrases for example. Another is those glittery wine glasses/bottles being sold on every Facebook page. Then there are those books that have been turned into words and classed as art.

There are more. Wow there are more but before I go on, are these common pet hates or AIBU a miserable bitch

Those big beards young chaps keep sporting, esp with a topknot.

Selfies.

OTheHugeManatee · 03/03/2015 17:22

I rather like the beards.

Blush
SconeRhymesWithGone · 03/03/2015 17:22

Selfie sticks.

Hippee · 03/03/2015 17:23

My hairdresser made me laugh - everyone round here seems to have a cockerpoo, labradoodle, puggle, etc. - she insists on calling them mongrels. That said, I can see why people want poodle crosses for allergy reasons, but it still makes me smile.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/03/2015 17:25

So many things here!!!!

Sourcing - fuck off, you bought it!

People painting everything white (or grey)

Giant letters spelling out love!

Words transferred onto walls

Those awful fucking pictures proclaiming what a wonderful family are that "love, laugh, forgive, dance, bla bla bla" we shout scream and sulk - fuck off

food served on wood - surely environmental health have copped onto this by now

if anyone serves my drink in a jam jar they WILL be replacing it with a glass!

Vintage anything - its not vintage, its old shit, move on

hashtag anything, i don't even know what it means

Now im going to sit back and read the thread :)

ZombieZoo · 03/03/2015 17:28

I find proper writing "happy birthday to my beautiful daughter you are lovely and 5 today" does she have a fucking facebook??

ChocolateCherry · 03/03/2015 17:31

And weather events. A weather...event?

That'll be the weather then Confused

KatieKaye · 03/03/2015 17:37

Magic marker eyebrows. Since when did looking like a pantomime dame become a "must have"?

And that's another one. Must have, I mean. Fancy way of saying I want.

RollaCola · 03/03/2015 17:37

The words "flavourful" and "healthful", I think they're more of a U.S. affectation than a UK one, but still whenever I hear them I want to retch.

And wank shops, I don't mean porn, I mean shops that sell a lot of pointless wank, mostly the aforementioned shabby chic and stuff like chrome stags heads and felt owls. See below link for the original wank shop.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/03/2015 17:45

Its not Mac and cheese - its macaroni cheese!

Facebook "businesses" selling made up shite, felt broaches, decoupage jars, cards etc etc - if i want home made looking shite i'll make it myself!

Self pitying facebook posts that beg you to say "are you ok hun" fuck off

Boasting posts on facebook - those are worse

Quotes on facebook with some sort of retro looking picture, usually pertaining to wine o clock!

ChocolateCherry · 03/03/2015 17:50

Omg YES Mac n Cheese should be made illegal. I can barely type the words or read them without wanting to throw a plate of it at a wall.

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 03/03/2015 18:04

Craft beer, I love a real ale but why is it now called craft beer?

GallicIsCharlie · 03/03/2015 18:10

Until last year I assumed that Mac & Cheese was a MacDonald's cheeseburger.

GallicIsCharlie · 03/03/2015 18:11

TooMany, surely it's artisan beer by now? Or has it already been that Confused

GallicIsCharlie · 03/03/2015 18:14

OK, this is not trendy as in fashionable, but the trend that has totally BLOWN MY MIND is bleachable carpet. That's it ... it's plastic, feels scratchy, comes in innumerable expressions of beige, and you can scrub it with bleach.

Why?

LiberalPedant · 03/03/2015 18:15

Sorry, but macaroni cheese sounds like cheese made of macaroni.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/03/2015 18:20

thats not the point though liberal, its what its called! always has been MACARONI CHEESE!!! another annoying mnet trend

BikeRunSki · 03/03/2015 18:23

I think the dreaded "Mac and cheese" might actually be the genuine American expression for macaroni cheese. I'm not saying that makes it ok in the UK though. Wink

Germgirl · 03/03/2015 18:26

I drove past a cafe called 'Birdie Num Nums' today.
I thought of this thread.
I bet they serve handmade artisan sandwiches made of four quid loaves of sourdough bread on mismatched plates.
They'll have quirky stuff nailed to the walls, which will be badly painted grey and pastel green.
None of the chairs will match, and they'll all wobble.
They may even serve Mac 'n' cheese!

LiberalPedant · 03/03/2015 18:26

Ah, so is the objection is based on linguistic xenophobia, then?

Germgirl · 03/03/2015 18:29

Haha!! They do!!! Pulled Pork Mac n Cheese no less!
And the staff are of the tattooed-vintage 50s dress-very short fringe-Victory roll hair ilk.
It's probably quite nice but it looks like a bit of a wank-fest tbh.

ditavonteesed · 03/03/2015 18:34

oh dear, I have, do or am most of the things mentioned here.
Apart from magic marker eyebrows, they give me the rage.

Trills · 03/03/2015 18:34

Craft beer is often NOT real ale.

Real ale is a specific thing, with a specific definition.

Craft beer is a wooly definition of "interesting beer made by people who don't think of themselves as big companies, even when they become successful and large" (I'm looking at you, Meantime Brewing Company).

I rather like craft beer though.

The liquid, not necessarily the phrase.

LazyRohazy · 03/03/2015 18:37

Chatty menus. I don't want a menu to be my fucking friend. I want it to tell me what I can have for lunch.

stillwearingaredribbon · 03/03/2015 18:38

Agree
Mac n cheese gives me the rage
Sling it back to where it came from along with fucking cup cakes
We live in the UK we have buns, fairy cakes or muffins which are made in a totally different way
Or butterfly buns

My latest rage is 'my bad'
I have even seen it in a thread. Fuck off

LoL
Hun
