with the guardianista contingent and/or overly PC stuff. There are rarely discussions - just opinions - and there are more opinions of the above.

i think that MN raises the perfect parent syndrome to new heights. where its ok to culturally exclude your children from school - becuase not watching telly is better than having friends and nice childhood memories. to being trounced on( en masse not just one poster) for daring to say that breastfeeding during an appraisel wasn't appropriate - until mears said something similar.
on most issues i'm not even extreem but rather just plain or blunt.
But whats got to me recently is not people i have never heard of ( so this isn't a newbies spoil MN moan) but people i remember making badges for at last years xmas do. i respect others opinions and have often had mine changed on political or topical subjects due to intelligent debate. but thats very rare these days. in favour of blatent personal comments ( towards me and others) the belittling of opinions with a "oh custy ...!"

i thought it was just me. but is not. every other thread is just hysterical these days.

oh and just to answer the obvious questions.

  1. the point is i wanted to say it
  2. simply stating " oh custy" is not going to be very original or indeed appropriate - however expected in leiu if originality.
  3. no its not pmt or anything between the lines

So, ought I not send you an email to ask you whats up then?

lulumama · 22/10/2006 22:47

sorry to hear that.....as an antidote to some of the less savoury aspects...I have been getting involved more on the philosophy/faith threads...which , have been calm , rational & respectful and welcoming of all........

is this your swan song?

hauntymandy · 22/10/2006 22:47

think I understand!

hunkermunker · 22/10/2006 22:48

I was a trouncer of Custy on the bfeeding appraisal thread.

(That sounds like the start of an AA meeting - my name is Hunkermunker and I am a Custy-trouncer)

Sorry again.

I do agree though. But then I like telly and I think it's important to know what happened on Knightrider so that you can talk about it in the playground the next day

I still have my badge, btw.

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 22/10/2006 22:52

I sincerely hope that was not a flounce
I for one have treasured my badge that you made me last year and shall be wearing it again this year.
If you leave then they will win and there wil be no voices of reason
I generally don't go on these threads saying please don't go but just don't, ok.

Milliways · 22/10/2006 22:53

I've always appreciated your Teenager threads / replies, & general common sense (& humorous) approach to life & MN.

SPACEdoutzombieCADET · 22/10/2006 22:59

i hope this doesnt mean that you are going custy as i know that ive appreciated your hard hitting advice, especially with regard to my teen dd.
ive found lately that some threads have just spiralled into the ridiculous so i tend to keep away from them..i didnt read the thread your referring to though so cant comment.

Jimjams2 · 22/10/2006 23:00

Funny 5 minutes ago I was wandering around the kitchen looking at piles of washing up pondering the same thing.

GhoulsToo · 22/10/2006 23:03

i'm all washed out MN wise - gosh whooda thunk it? Gosh is there an echo in here?

harpsichordcarrion · 22/10/2006 23:06

custy, I am sorry you feel this way. I do hope I haven't pissed you off in any way - if I have I apologise now. I think your individual style means that you have such a striking voice that you can't help but be noticed.
which probably sounds patronising.
I think you are very much respected on these boards, and probably viewed with a tremendous amount of affection, which is pretty unusual in this viper's pit.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/10/2006 23:07

The great wise Custy Flounced
Coz she felt well and truly trounced
We was all really sorry
So dont you all worry
Her comeback will soon be announced

Custy - i think you are great. You emailed me a really really lovely email at a time when I was so so low and it meant a great deal to me. I really appreciated the efforts you went to organising the Christmas meet up last year (even though you got so pissed you didnt remember me ).

But, sometimes things go tits up. For whatever reason. Sometimes, like now, you'll feel like an island in a raging sea of opinions. Thats life. Dont feel bad. The weather will change, and the sea will calm. We love you - even if we dont all agree with you.

Lact8HisLiverWithANiceChianti · 22/10/2006 23:09

Hellmouthcusty, I've never spoken to you but you're one of the names that I look for on threads. I often think that you've got the balls to say what I'm too scared of saying and you are usually the voice of reason when something is kicking off.

I like the fact that you are blunt and straight to the point

I really hope you don't leave. You come across as not putting up with any shit off anyone ( you are a bit of a role model really) and I'd hate to think that all the crap that's gone on lately would make you leave

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/10/2006 23:09

And even if i dont agree with your opinions - respect them hugely because I know they come from your heart and your experiences and not from following the latest trend of thought.

edam · 22/10/2006 23:10

Please don't go Custy! We are losing too many funny, wise people at the moment.

lou33 · 22/10/2006 23:13

custy i know exactly what you mean

Tortington · 22/10/2006 23:14

hunkermunker · 22/10/2006 23:19

Night Oh Custy

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 22/10/2006 23:20

Mwah Mwah

lulumama · 22/10/2006 23:22

glad you are not flouncing...sleep well...

Blu · 22/10/2006 23:24

I think you are right about the 'announcing of opinions' instead of a debate. But I wonder if that is because of the speed of theads and the way so many points of view come in so quickly. Actually it's worse when 17 posters all making the same point, but with a different put-down, all follow like rats down a drain.

I am a guardianista, without a doubt - but I didn't think it a good idea to bf in an appraisal!
