I am travelling to Crawley this weekend, from the M3 and M25. Really want to go to Aldo for some shoes I have seen and notice there was a shop in Croydon.
Can anyone tell me how far off the motorway it actually is and if I'll be going totally out of my way? Will i be able to re-join the M25 in the right direction and how is parking? Is Aldo in a shopping centre or in the town.

Help is greatly appreciated

1st or 2nd shoes, defo.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:44

KellyKrueger1978, yu don't need to go anywhere near Ikea to get to Centrale!

mosschops30 · 02/10/2006 13:46

great kelly will stick with that then, can i park at the centrale then? I will probably get lost but it'll be worth it. How long do you reckon off M25 and how far from Croydon to Crawley

no but if you are coming into croydon, you come in down purley way, that is how my parents always did it. Then get to centrale down london road and afford the underpass etc.

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:47

laods of parkign at centrale, tho it is very exp. willt ake a while to get into croydon, traffic is apalling. I'd say maybe hour and half from croydon to crawley, nto too sure.

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:48

avoid the underpass!

LIZS · 02/10/2006 13:49

I'm confused by Kelly too . Don't you turn right at the lights just past the old Airport and Chinese Supermarket on A23 Purley Way, follow straight into Croydon centre then left at the big roundabout ? It is signposted.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:50

Follow the M23 to Croydon, this turns into the A23. Keep following this through hideous roadworks in Colsdon, on to Purley. There will be some traffic lights with Tescos on your left. Go left at these and then in the middle lane, turn right. Keep left and follow the left 2 lanes round to the left. Carry on until you go past Halfords and the Wing Yip Chinese Supermarket. At the majoy lights turn Right (NB you need the righ that is next to the "straight on" road Should be signposted Central Croydon/Centrale/Flyover or similar. There's another smaller road also on the right at this junction after this.) Follow this road round to the right and then you need to go under the flyover (down ramp in the left) and at the big roundabout turn left to the firestation - it's definitely signposted Centrale from here)

sandyballs · 02/10/2006 13:51

I was thinking that Soupdragon - wouldn't it be best to turn right at Fiveways (homebase crossroads).

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:51

No, Kelly you go nowhere near Sainsburys! To go to central Croydon you turn off Purley Way after the Wing Yip supermarket way before the Sainsburys retail section.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:52

And Centrale is still the cheapest carpark in central Croydon

mosschops30 · 02/10/2006 13:53

Noooooo? Which way now, I am going to write down directions

and an hour and a half from croydon to crawley i can do cardiff to crawley in 2 and a half hours

If you have to be in Crawley for something important make sure you allow lots and lots and lots of time.

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:54

but that takes u right into the center and u have to go round the one way system, which is why I like my way!

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:55

Follow my directions Trust me, I'm a dragon. And I've just got back from Centrale.

The Croydon - M25 bit of your journey will be awful. That;'s where you'll lose the time. At least 30 minutes on a good day I'd say. And it;s never a good day.

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:55

the exit fro crawley is only about 20 miles down the m23 iirc, but it takes forever to get anywhere when you are near croydon.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:56

No you don't Kelly. You go nowhere near the underpass and nowhere near the one way bit. You go under the flyover and turn left to the firestation.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2006 13:57

You end up approaching Centrale from Reeves Corner.

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:58

if you follow soupys directions I think you come out at a big roundabout with council buildigns on your left. You then have to turn left, keep in left lane and follow it down (watch out for trams ). keep left and you turn left after you pass the big shopping center on your left then follow that down til you see centrale. Right, soupy?

mosschops30 · 02/10/2006 13:58

ok so if croydon is such a nightmare would i be better going to Kingston for the shoes (although am seriously considering neither now)

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:58

but that way is very confusign to soemone who doesnt know croydon!

KellyKrueger1978 · 02/10/2006 13:59

I always got lost around reeves corner and I lived there for a year.

mosschops30 · 02/10/2006 13:59
