I am looking to buy a car and have got down to 2 and have test drove them both this morning. Now I can't decide and want anyones opions TIA
Clio-V reg , 1.4,5 door, most of the extras, (apparently was top of the range model when new!), 1 years warrrenty, tax?(may be able to get some deal?)

Polo- T reg,4 door,1.6,has a tow-bar but boot is bigger, air bags, can't remember about windows ,tape player, 3 months warrenty , 6 months tax, ahd a very
stiff clutch when I drove it( but man said it has just arrived and will be fitting new something?)

As you can see I am not very technical and need all the help I can get!!!!!!

Had a 1.4 RT Clio (M reg) before ds was born and really loved it - passed it on to my mum and it did many years service for her too. The RT model was the top one - had height adjustable seat, lumbar adjustment and steering wheel so comfy to drive and quick, electric front windows, airbags etc! Make sure you get the warranty as things can be pricey to fix on a Renault.

had noticed, seat stuff, cd player, electric windows, 2 air bags, it is from a renault garage so has their warrenty,it is also £400 dearer tahn the polo.

I always liked VW but like this Clio better than the Polo!

Mileage? Seen as how they are both quite old cars it is a big factor.

nikkie · 21/09/2006 13:29

clio- 39000 (ish)
polo- 43500 (ish)
so both fairly low!

checked insurance and the polo is roughly £30 a year more expensive, anyome know about car tax?

OP posts:
nikkie · 21/09/2006 14:00

ok car tax is dearer for the vw.
Compared prices for that sort of car in general andboth come out slightly dearer than average but our area is dear for cars and also both have low mileage.

Anyone tell me what to look for?

FWIW I have driven two Clios (V and X reg). DS wrote off V reg one - skidded and ended on its side in field. DS came out without even a bruise. I've found mine to be very reliable, well kitted out and quite roomy for a supermini.

Bozza · 21/09/2006 20:51

I would go for Clio.

have had a development on the car front !
Just about to go back to see cars again and my Grandad has decided to give me a lot more money to buy a car as he is worried about the kids being in an older car if it breaks down [rolls] so I am back to the start looking at cars
tomorrow will be out to various garages and see what they have, so far am interested in....

206
C3
Yaris
Clio
Polo

Any more suggestions in this sort of car?

Ok, fwiw:
I had a Polo and loved it (dh a car sales man, used to sel MG Rover, then Toyota - now leases cars!)
Now have Rover 25
When dh worked for Toyota - he admitted it was the first time he had sold a car he would actually buy and pay money for!!
Toyota - extremely reliable (people who buy them often repeat buy, cos they are that good!)
We had lots when he worked there - and they really are fab! If I could I would have the Corolla Verso - 7 seater and so versatile it is amazing.

nikkie · 22/09/2006 21:43

Well there is just me and 2 kids and no buggies so no worries there.

OP posts:
nikkie · 23/09/2006 18:48

Have been out and test drove a YAris and a C3 liked both and am stuck again! Still want to have a look at a 206, can't find a newer clio locally or a Polo.Didn't like the Fiesta.
Any more opinions on these cars?
