Where did you go for your honeymoon?

My OH and I are getting married next year. Today we were discussing honeymoon options.

I'm looking for some destination inspiration and interested to know where you all went. What was great about it? What was bad about it? Would you recommend your destination or advise against it?...

Holiday after wedding was camping on Skye.
Big holiday we saved up for and was our delayed proper honeymoon was fly-drive to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite and San Fransisco.

We went to Zanzibar! Because I got to say 'Zanzibar!' A lot. It was great, we did 4 days safari at the Selous game reserve then flew to Zanzibar, 8 days at a beach resort & 2 days in Stone Town. It was perfect & wouldn't change a thing. We did lots of tours while at the beach resort so we saw the places where spices are grown, went off for a day of snorkelling (& stuffing our face full of fish) & other things like that.
It wasn't cheap but we thought if you're going to splash out on any holiday then it should be your honeymoon.

We also went to Zanzibar, loved it. Totally tranquil and lazy or for a couplep of fete weeks, followed by Stone town for a few days. Would love to go back one day.

Well we're having probs deciding because we both like the idea of exotic - sun, turquoise seas, white sands, cocktails etc, picture perfect and tranquil. But we both get bored easily, there's only so much relaxing and sunbathing we can stand. We want to do things, see things, have experiences, create some fantastic memories. So its pretty much a blank canvas at the mo, no specific ideas whatsoever

What month are you getting married? We went skiing in Canada then to Hawaii to cover both options but it was a winter wedding. It cost £££ but was amazing.

Home at our rented flat.
It was cheap, easy to understand the locals, and a tolerable journey. Grin

I would choose to go to British Colombia, Cuba, Goa or Norway....

Maui. Got married there, we loved it. It had the convenience of being American and the beauty of tropical island. The sunsets are particularly stunning duo to the lack of artifical light nearby. We visited Pearl Harbour and Oahu for a day too.

Yep, we're happy to island hop, or spebd one week in place then move on somewhere else for another week.

We're getting married mid July, then hoping to honeymoon in August during the school hols, as MIL is a teacher and can look after our DS while we're away (so it'll probably cost us even more at that time of year unfortunately)

We went to Canada - toured the east coast then went to Banff and did day trips. Like you, we also get bored and like visiting/walking etc. absolutely superb, had a wonderful time and would go back in a heartbeat.

Having said that, we went to the Maldives a year later. We weren't sure that we'd love it but friends recommended it to us so thought we'd give it a try. It was utterly phenomenal. We did a couple of day trips to local villages which were really interesting, but we were quite happy even just staying on the island. Completely and utterly unexpected, and we agreed that had we gone their for our honeymoon we would have enjoyed it as much - if not more than - Canada.

We went to Bath for a few days.
It was lovely - relaxing, no stress of travelling / getting ready to go abroad at same time as getting ready for wedding.

The Greek island of Samos.
Good things were: lots of nice rocky bits to snorkel round with fish to look at, lovely restaurants, cocktails! Nice countryside inland- we did a great bit of hill walking.
