Angelina Ballerina? A collection of Disney Princess type stories? WHSmith seems to have loads of pink books. My LO is 8 & loves the girly books.

If she likes witches the Pongwiffy series (quite old now) & also the worst witch may go down well when she's a bit older.

Usborne book of fairy/princess stories or the fairy stories jigsaw book is beautiful especially as a present.

I can order it if you can't get hold of it.

welshmum · 07/09/2006 19:32

There's an Angelina Ballerina book called Invitation to the Ballet and every page has a letter that they open (you know the kind of thing?) there's even a charm necklace....oh my goodness how exciting and girly is that?! Just read it to my 4 year old dd and she loves it to bits

foxinsocks · 07/09/2006 19:33

have you read the Gaskitt family books by the Ahlbergs? May be a bit too advanced for her (in chapters) but if she has a good sense of silly, slapstick humour, she will probably love them.

Otherwise all the other horrors - rainbow fairies, not quite mermaids, secret unicorns

Felicity Wishes the original one is good and ditto Angelina Ballerina, original or all.

Bink · 07/09/2006 20:07

I claim to have the Princess of Sparkle - whole row of what foxinsocks calls so appositely "the other horrors". (Don't we all wish we were the ones churning it out and raking it in.)

We've been doing the library Reading Mission this summer and stuff she has sniffed out (indiscrimately save for certain type of jacket design) include:

  • the Fizzy Pink series by Cherry Whytock

  • the Lilac Peabody series by Annie Dalton (this is quite nice, as a concept - helpful sparkly little girl alien, basically Tinkerbell)

I note these as they are not the usual suspects (usual suspects being Milly Molly Mandy, My Naughty Little Sister, Mrs. Pepperpot, Mary Plain, etc. - less sparkly but more substantial (to my mind) ...)

Bink · 07/09/2006 20:11

Another usual suspect: Gobbolino the Witch's Cat (I love this, though I have noted it makes for strange schisms on MN - I think I love it because it was not, originally, a Concept Franchise.)

Blondilocks · 07/09/2006 22:06

Oh I loved Gobbolino the witches cat when I was little!!

UnquietDad · 07/09/2006 22:14

Blue Kangaroo ? My dd loved all these from about 3-5.

NomDePlume · 07/09/2006 22:15

Thanks for these, btw
