I'm sure we'll prove THIS theory!!!

Okay, the last 2 theories of mine were proved to be incorrect, but I feel far more confident about this one

I think that first born children look more like their dad than their mum and vice versa with 2nd borns (not sure about susequent children yet!)

My dd is a dead ringer for dh whereas ds looks far more like me.

Go on then, prove me wrong

My first born looks a little more like me. 2nd born looks almost exactly like me except her eyes (which aren't DH's, either!). Although some people say 2nd born looks exactly like her brother, instead. The baby we're expecting (3rd) I think will look exactly like DH. Er, doesn't that disprove the theory?!
But theory is exactly true in DH's family.

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 19:50

Does no-one else remember Anne Elk (ahem)

jac34 · 25/03/2004 20:14

The first of my DS twins looks like DH and second like me.....well thats what I think, however, everyone thinks they are identical. It's only DH and myself, who think they look different.
I'm an only child and look like my Dad.
The theory is true in DH's family as well.

Posey · 25/03/2004 20:23

Who is Anne Elk?

To whoever asked me where I get my theories (sorry I don't remember), well its nothing serious, certainly not rocket science
I guess I'm just one of those people who observes a lot of whats going on around. This one for example, when friends started having kids it struck me that a large proportion of the first borns looked just like dad.
Anyway, I know all the genetic stuff really (got A level biology ), just find it interesting.

As for was it janh's theory on initials?
Well our first born has the same sound but not the same letter (J and G)

Anne Elk was a monty python character who had theories.

The script is here but you need to hear it really.

Used to make me PMSL when I was teenager (and still does)

You should change your name to Anne Elk

SenoraPostrophe · 25/03/2004 20:29

Jan - I have the same initial as my dd....if you write it in pencil and then take a rubber to the bottom half of it, that is. Does that count?

And the whole family is in the first half of the alphabet. Hmmmm

Janh · 25/03/2004 20:29

"This is my theory which belongs to me" - ahem.

(Aksherly "I am a lady" on Little Britain sounds a lot like Anne Elk, come to think of it - ahem)

Janh · 25/03/2004 20:34

Now then, as far as MY theory goes - ahem - I fit it (surprise) and so do lou33 and spacemonkey and my SIL, and Tinker and her grandma and suedonim, and Senora P in a 50%-or-use-a-rubber kind of way. It's a start!

Any more want to own up?

(Except for suedonim all the first babies here are girls - but I did it to my first boy too.)

Posey · 25/03/2004 20:36

Thanks CD

no, i think ds looks like me, and that is the consensus view.

Linnet · 25/03/2004 21:58

Everyone we meet tells us that our dd looks just like me, but I think she looks just like her dad. When she was a baby though she looked a lot like my side of the family, so much so that we have a photo of her at around 13months and it could be my younger brother as she looks just like him. Also a friend of mine has always insisted that my dd looks just like my brother did when he was little.

I'm first born and I look a lot like my late mother. My brother however I think takes after my dads family.
My dh is 2nd born and looks like his dad but his older brother looks just like his mum.
Oh and my dd's name doesn't begin with the same initial as my name or dh's name. 2nd baby is due in May and it's name won't begin with the same initial as either of us either.

Crunchie · 26/03/2004 10:20

OK Posey, finally one I agree with DD1 looks the spit of her dad. We have photos of them both at the same ages and it is uncanny. DD2 looks just like me, same hair/eyes/mouth and wwicked look in her eyes. Personality wise I would also say this is true too. Although DD2 is far kinder then me

dinosaur · 26/03/2004 10:23

Nope can't prove you wrong, DS1 looks very like DH whilst DS2 is more like me.

Natt · 26/03/2004 10:25

I always feel like the butterfly in Monkey Puzzle - "none of my babies looks like me" - but not that much like their dad either. Is a bit crap when people say to you "Oooh they don't look like you do they?" Is it stupid to mind?

StripyMouse · 26/03/2004 10:45

works with my siblings and I, not with my own children and not with DH and his siblings - mixed result here. Nice theory though.
