prices have been hiked hugely

direct debit is estimated across the year so you probably used more in the winter months and now they're re-adjusting based on a new estimate for next year

British Gas have just announced another price rise so if you're thinking of switching don't do it for a couple of months until all the companies have announced their price rise because otherwise you'll be shafted .. again

its disgusting isn't it .. they're blaming rice in fuel prices yet still making phenomenal profits

My electricity went up from £28 to £66 in the space of a year at my old address. (I didn't have gas) British Gas are putting their prices up. Visit www.uswitch.com and put all your info in and they should find youa better offer. Hope the L's are well x

This happened to me last month. I called them up and said "you are having a laugh aren't you". They asked me how much I could pay a month and I said £55 and that's what they agreed to! Just check that you don't get a debit on your account or they will hike it up again next time they review it.

Twiglett · 29/07/2006 09:39

DO NOT SWITCH YET ... NOT UNTIL ALL POWER COMPANIES ANNOUNCE THEIR RISES

otherwise the switch sites are comparing apples and tractors

it was on Martin's money tips last newsletter

suew,i think you should get some quotes for a new boiler, probably quite expensive but in thelong run will be worth it. i work part time and your bill would only leave me with an extra £40 amonth if ipaid it. unbelievable

hub2dee · 29/07/2006 09:49

New boiler and thermostat might be sensible SueW...

marthamoo · 29/07/2006 10:04

We have a brand new, state of the art boiler (well, we had it put in when we moved in, so 5 years old) and Powergen just put our combined gas/electricity bills up to £150 per month...and we are £250 in arrears because we haven't been paying enough. I switched (used uswitch) to EDF (before this latest price hike, Twig - they were the cheapest a few weeks ago!)

Cannot believe our gas and electricity bills, actually - when we moved in we were paying £60 per month...

hub2dee · 29/07/2006 10:29

Just started a discussion on whether the rip off b@stards should be profit-capped.

Here .

Perigrine · 29/07/2006 10:29

Just to let you know though Scottish Hydro, Swalec, Atlantic and Southern have promised not to increase prices until 2007.

Perigrine · 29/07/2006 10:30

EDF and BGAS put up prices this week!

theyre building a mini village in my village of about 60 houses that look like 2storey mobile homes, they have solar roofing and electric light/heaters and apparently will store the solar heat forthe winter. bloody ugly things and not cheap ,about £200k, but probably its the housing ofthe future if theyre more economical to live in......i cant afford one

radiators in the skirting board, how strange.never heard of that.could you ring them and tell them you cant afford it or see where you can cut down.youve probably done that anyway.

from what marthamoo has said there would be no point in changing your boiler anyway

Ladymuck · 29/07/2006 10:51

Our has gone from £107 per month to £304 (combined). I first went to check for a leak...

I might start asking my neighbours what they're paying...
